I received the CA e-mail about the upcoming NYC Big Smoke yesterday.

Is it me or has the time frame gone down? I haven't been to one in years, but weren't they 3+ hours per session?

Also, wasn't it $225 just recently?

From the early years, they really seem to have gone down hill. Elbow-to-elbow, people attacking the the booze & food, and you don't really have much time to talk to anyone...too short.

What do you guys think? Is anyone here going?

The value isn't there for sure. You can buy a box of Padron or Arturo Fuente cigars and go herfing with your buddies and still come out ahead money wise. YMMV

It's a cattle call anyways. It's neat once, but after that it's a bore.

BTW, I've never been, I've just got a bad attitude about the whole thing. LOL

Cigar Aficionado, like 'The Big Smoke', were good when they first started out. It's hard to recommend going once to experience it because like you said, it's a cattle drive...the complete opposite of what cigar smoking is all about, relaxing, having a cigar, a drink and some good conversation.

It's a shame...now Marvin has his hands in our pockets.

Stinki, you have a bad attitude and you're in the business!

I've gone to the Big Smoke night in NYC as well as the Las Vegas Big smoke weekend. They both were an experience but not something I am running to do again. The biggest thing for guys like us is that the cigars you get are mostly giveaways. You get a few decent cigars and few gifts and some snacks but I agree you could take the dough and buy a good box with change left over. I think the Big Smoke has become a cigar newbie event. Guys with a significant stash at home will be disappointed with what you get. Save your money and treat yourself to something nice.

You are right, the venue is too small for the amount of tickets sold and god forbid you get the later half session ticket.

I'm going to the one in Vegas and I can not wait to go. I would definately call my self a noob cigar smoker, since I've only been smoking for a tad over a year now.

I've never been to a Big Smoke, but I used to dream about how cool it would be. Since I've started hanging out here at CP though, and the knowledge-base here began suplanting Cigar Snob-ionado as my go-to place for cigar information, I've lost my desire to go. I'm really sick of buying a magazine that has half it's pages devoted to it's publishers golf game. Really, Marvin? Sorry, "The Shotmaker?" How ridiculous. Or rediculous if you'd like.

My next trip to Vegas for cigar smoking will be a Cigar Pass herf. It may be a few years, but I'll get there eventually.

I have received multiple emails promoting this event. Looking at the cost versus the time, this is clearly not worth what they want to charge. I am trying to avoid using the word ripoff. I agree with Anthony, buy yourself a nice box of Padrons  .
