Bloom

What do you think I should do guys? Will brushing the little mold I had on the head and foot of the cigar be enough or should I leave out of the humi for a while to dry up?

Take it out of the humidor, clean your other cigars, clean the humidor, and smoke the known-infested cigar. You can't see mold spores; they are tiny, and likely on more than just that one cigar.

Also you might consider that for mold to grow, it has to be pretty moist, and relatively warm -- the conditions in your humidor may not be ideal.

On a positive note, here's a delicious example of Plume/bloom:

Maybe it will help fight cancer, they make penicillin from mold don't they?

Its a hard one to get used to they look alot alike. I just keep moki's pics around and if it has not yellowed from oil yet chances are its mold.

I am so glad I read this thread and looked at the pictures yesterday. Today went to a local shop cuz I saw on their website they seemed to have a decent price on Ashton VSG Spellbound which I was looking to try. They had a box alright. The guy pointed them out and started to tell me that they were starting to get some nice plume to them. I looked at them and told him about reading this thread and that it looked more like mold to me. (cottony and mostly at the tip) He insisted otherwise. We went back and forth for awhile. I eventually just bought a couple other moldless sticks and left. I am so greatful for all the experience that gets shared here. Hats off to all the BOTL that I have learned so much from around here.

Thanks!

Not in person -- if you can brush it off with your finger, it's mold, not plume/bloom. Remember, plume is caused by the oils seeping out of the cigar and crystalizing -- so it's not going to be something that you can just blow/brush off easily.

Actually, my PAM's are crystalizing a bit. After careful examination, that was plume. It is quite easy to see the difference now.

nice.
hey, ree, can you get some good photos of your plumie PAM?
I'd love to see that.

I just recently went trhough my humidors after a 17 Haitus looking for Plume, mold, beetles, and the general shape of my cigars. My wife was in charge of the coolerdors while I was away. I found a box of PSDC #3's that were in serious mold status. I brushed off the mold, let them sit on the counter over night(Forced hot ait heat, very dry house), and put them into a new box that I was throwing out. Hopefully, they will be okay. I haven't smoked one yet, but worse comes to worse, I can always just toss em. I think they will be fine. Good news is that out of all the smokes, this was the only box that had any negative side affects of there daddy being away. ;) No Beetles to speak of, Knock on Wood.
