Growing too fast.
What a magnificent cigar, the Bolivar Double Corona RE. The construction was good with a chocolate brown wrapper that was slightly coarse and had a nice oily sheen. I was a little disappointed that the bands weren’t on the cigar as it enhances the visual aspect; however the smoking is the true experience.
I punched the cap and found the draw spot on with a taste of good tobacco. With the foot torched, I took a couple puffs and then a slow long draw revealing true Bolivar flavors of rich, sweet black coffee, chocolate caramel and a dark earth undertone. Hints of black licorice and a dark roasted nut came through as well with a perfect amount of pepper spice on the back of the throat.
I found a good medium strength in the very smooth and creamy smoke with an absolutely delicious long finish that was quite lasting. The burn was perfect with a nice gray ash forming; however I let it sit too long between draws and had to re-light at about a half-inch in. Tons of smoke flowed once re-lit.
A third in and rich, black coffee and chocolate flavors continued with a pronounced dark, roasted nut in the mix. There was also a delicious freshly baked bread taste lathered in a creamy butter. Sheer heaven! I take slow, long draws and exhale the creamy smoke through my nose, relishing the incredible flavors. The burn continued to be sharp with a strong ash that I knocked off at about every inch.
The final third I had a problem keeping the fire going and after ashing the cigar I saw why. There was a small tunnel down the center of the ash; however after about a half inch the fire was burning good again. This was an absolutely fantastic smoke with incredible flavors and a wonderfully long lasting finish. It is also, without a doubt, one hell of a long smoke!
I can say I certainly had my fill by the time I got to the end. I’d love to have a box of these, cut them all in half, and have a cab of coronas RE!
