Boxing Fans

Finally? I beg to differ.

De La Hoya is aging. Yes, he's now down a few weight classes. I'm a Mayweather fan and believe Pretty Boy will take out the Golden Boy in whatever manner he sees fit. Don't get me wrong, I'll still shell out the $$$ to watch it live.

The real fight that isn't happening is Hatton - Mayweather. And that's because Hatton is happy taking the belt from an over the hill Tzu and defend it against nobodies in England. He's yellow. I want to see Mayweather take apart Hatton and then just retire because he owns everybody. But this sport has fallen to the dogs. Hype is more important than talent and we'll have to wait 5 years when neither fighter is good in order to see the fight that should be taking place today.

Sorry if I sound bitter. But that's just the way I feel...wanting to watch 2 fighters at their respective peaks against each other.

But it's always exciting to find another boxing fan. Like finding a fellow cigar smoker, it's like an immediate understanding and mutual respect for one another, where we can at least debate about a sport that so few take interest in.

Who has the motivation?

De La Hoya has proven, when the motivation is there, nobody will
beat him.

I believe he has that motivation.

As some of you may remember from my introductory post I grew up in Las Vegas. I used to get tickets to the golden gloves every year. I had the pleasure of having a neighbor who was like a grandfather to me who was a boxing enthusiast and he and I would go see the fights at the Showboat, Caesars Palace (where I saw Hagler vs Leonard live-Hagler got robbed LOL) and other venues. Roger Mayweather was a staple around the boxing community, and you used to see him standing outside all the time hamming it up. It was great, I had very bright red hair when I was young and I think it made me stand out a bit, every time I would see him, he would always acknowledge me, say hello and stuff. It was fun, good times, and I always have had a special fondness for the Mayweathers.

I became disenchanted with the sport of boxing when it got out of control, fights seemed to be fixed, judgements were questionable....Roy Jones Jr said it best once when he was anouncing, and to paraphrase he basically said that anytime you fight one of Don Kings fighters, its one of the only fights where you could knock the guy out..AND STILL LOSE!!

The icing on the cake for me was watching The De La Hoya Trinidad fight. I think this was something like 8 years ago. Having seen literally hundreds of boxing matches live, I was amazed. Many people didn't care for the fight. It didn't have huge knock out blows and pounding. The majority of the fans had no idea what a treat they were being given. It was IMHO the best, most technical showing of boxing I have ever seen. If you were ever going to sit down a young fighter and explain excellence in form and composure, this is surely the fight you would want them to watch. All the way up until the 11th round when Oscar started backing off and protecting his certain win. I didn't care for what he was doing, but couldn't disagree. Why let yourself get knocked out if you have basically landed almost twice the amount of punches as your opponent? Well, lo and behold, Trinidad, an excellent boxer in his own right won the decision. It was then that I could no longer seriously follow boxing.

I agree, Oscar is getting older, and has been beaten, mainly because after all of his success, boxing titles maybe weren't as valuable as they once were. Being a betting man, as much as I loved watching De La Hoya fight, I have to say that Mayweather is going to beat him convincingly.

Should be a good fight, can't wait to see it...on HBO ;)

After watching De La Hoya's last fight, I'm saying he has the advantage. I'm glad he took this fight, but you knew after his last match he would.

What a bout this will be, I'm just a fan of boxing, so I just hope it's a good fight, but I'll be cheering for Hoya.

De La Hoya is going to get his as kicked.
He should retire and stay retired. He did some great things in his time but Mayweather is just too good.

Boxing just isn't what it used to be, the UFC is more exciting IMO.
I'll be watching the Hughes St. Pierre fight on Saturday

I agree. I don't know that Mayweather can knock him out. The only probability that comes close to that (barring a lucky punch) would be a flurry of blows which causes the ref to stop the bout or even less likely, a TKO.

I think its going to be a great fight. I will be rooting for them both to do well, but I don't think I can take sides. Just saying, I think Mayweather is going to have an advantage here. Hoya is going to be dancing around the ring singing one of the songs off of his album and Mayweather is going to be tatooing him in his lip!!! LOL

when I saw de la hoya box mosely (a few years back), I right then and there decided that de la hoya is the most boring boxer to watch. It was a decision decided match, and even though it was kinda entertaining watching mosely box, I grew tired of Oscar's triple jab and run away. I love boxing, but this to me, imo, De La Hoya is as entertaining as watching Ruiz's kissing matches.

So Mayweather all the way. Never saw Mayweather box though (surprising, I know, but pay per view costs money and my friend lost his black box over a year ago) I am predicting (I'm not Lederman nor am I psychic, just what I think is gonna happen) Mayweather wins by decision. Yes, I am bias against De La Hoya.

This Saturday night. Vegas. Morales -- Pacquiao Third and final. Who wins ?

This will be an exciting fight to watch and should be a brawl. A much better fight than the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight (Mayweather is a great fighter but he is boring to watch). I think this fight is a toss up, it depends who is in better shape and who is hungrier. If I had to choose one I would pick Manny by a split decision. This could be an historic fight.
