Lifestyles of the poor and wretched in my case :D

Lets see who hangs with the notables of the world. List all the famous people that you shook hands, got an autograph in person or just had a beer with. I’ve been lucky and rubbed a few shoulders over the years. There may be one or two more but these are the ones that jump out when I think about it.

Not in any particular order.

1. I was part of the Ready Force for President Nixon at San Clemente. He came out and shook hands a few times.

2. Shook hands with President Carter when he visited Camp Pendleton

3. Shook hands with President Reagan during a campaign stop in Washington

4. Met John Lehman, then Secretary of the Navy at Whidbey Island, WA.

5. Sat in the studio with the Jefferson Airplane at NBC, 30 Rock, NY circa 1968 (Dad pulled some strings)

6. Met the Grateful Dead in the elevator at NBC, NY when they did an SNL show.

7. Met Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon at NBC, NY

8. Had beers with Lemmy and Fast Eddie after a 1982 Motorhead show in Seattle, they showed up at the bar I was at after the show.

9. Had beers with Chrissy Hynde, as above.

10. Met David Bowie and Queen backstage at the Tower Theater in Philly during the Ziggy Stardust tour, (radio promo winner from WMMR while I was home on leave!)

11. Met Carly Simon and James Taylor at the 1st Bob Dylan Forum show, February 1974. They were sitting directly in front of me in the first row, I was in the second.

12. Met Iggy Pop and John Bonham, Joan Jett (who was seriously hot and underage) and Suzi Quattro at Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco on Sunset in Hollywood in late ’72 or early ‘73

13. Met 3 Commandants of the Marine Corps, Generals Cushman, Wilson and Gray.

14. Met then Major General Shalikashvili at Ft. Sill OK, later he became the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

15. I’ve had the honor to meet 5 Medal of Honor Winners and serve with one of them.

16. Was one of the extras in “An Officer and a Gentleman” myself and 4 buddies had dinner and drinks with Debra Winger and the wardrobe girls when shooting was called due to weather. I’m on screen for all of 2 seconds.

17. Met Johnny Unitas and Joe Theisman at Joe Theisman’s restaurant in Maryland

18. Met Jim Kelly (after he had retired) at Dulles International

19. Dated a former Miss Pennsylvania for 2 months, years after she won though..

20. Had a 2nd cousin who was a Playmate (A Miss September) and stayed with her and her 3 roomies on a trip to San Francisco. Nothing like hitting the town with 4 women of that caliber when you’re 18

All that and it got me nowhere LOL!!

I met "Steve" from the Jerry Springer Show when I was servicing some registers at Nike Town in Chicago.

He was with his wife & daughter. Nice guy.

Dave ;)

Let's see.........

As a kid, I met David Pearson, Daryl Waltrip and "The King" Richard Petty. My dad used to be a NASCAR official.

Met Sinbad and Zachary Tye Bryan?? when they filmed the movie "First Kid" at my wife's school.

Met Michael Jordan, Grits Gresham and Mike Ditka at The Crosby golf tourney in Winstin Salem, NC

That's all I remember right now....Gotta go, the jazz show is coming on NPR!!!

Brian Dennehy & Michael Talbott live nearby me in Woodstock, CT. Michael Talbott was in "Miami Vice" and has done many movies with Brian Dennehy, the Jack Reed ones among others. Brian & Mike are best of friends and live on the same piece of property in Woodstock. I've met them both quite a few times and they're great guys.

Other than that, no way can I hold a candle to the list that AVB has, WOW

Oh, I did shake hands with Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Phil Kemp when they have visited Connecticut on campaign stops over the years. I avoided John McCain when he's been here since I don't really like him.....

I did hang out back stage with Joan Jett at the Shaboo nightclub in Mansfield, CT in 1981. She's SHORT :0 but she's a hot ticket ;)

Funny you mention WMMR AVB, I found a WMMR sweatshirt when I was cleaning out the fraternity house at UCONN a long time ago. I still have it in my drawer :D "Philadelphia's Rock N Roll Animals" is sez.........

OOOPS, I forgot one more, David Johansen from the "New York Dolls" among others. Got to meet him backstage at a show in the early 80's

WMMR used to be such a great station in the late 60's and early 70's. They were at the forefront of the "progressive" stations playing Yes, Jethro Tull, PFM, ELP, Fairport Convention, Love Sculpture and of course, The Nazz...the list goes on and on. Nothing pushing the limits like that any more. :(

Nolan Ryan
Roger Clemens
Frank Thomas
Dwight Gooden
Darryl Strawberry
Don Mattingly
Charles Oakley
Patrick Ewing
Michael Jordan
Shawn Ellis
John Abraham
Jamie Henderson
Kyle Brady

and a few music artists, actors, radio/tv personalities:
Conan O'Brien
Yes
Steven Stills
Graham Nash
Rodney Dangerfield
Jim Ladd - Great DJ
Dick Lynch - NY Giants Announcer/ex-player
Mike Berman - ESPN

Shook hands with Jesse Jackson in '88

Shook hands with Dan Quayle '92

Talked with Neil Lomax, Brett Hull, Jim McMahon and John Elway at a celebrity golf tournament. McMahon was the most personable. The biggest jerks? Lawrence Taylor and Ernie Banks.

Joked with Bill Jenkins of Connecticut in several threads. :D :p  ;)

I met Matt several years ago. He's pretty famous...

I've met a few celebs at last year's Dennis Quaid Charity Golf Tournament in Austin. No big deal. Just normal people with fat bank accounts and sh*tty golf games.

Cigar Dinners, NFL Draft Parties and a lot of baseball games when I was in my early teens. We used to go after school and catch all the guys getting off the 7 train and heading into Shea Stadium. Most of the personalities I met while working in various Radio Stations throught the country

Wow AVB, you get around. My brush with fame is much more average.

I met Hubert H. Humphry when he was running for the Democratic nomination in 1972. Met him at the pancake house I was working at.

I did get to make breakfast for Nick Bockwinkel (AWA wrestling champ early 70's), he had strawberry roll-ups (like a crape).

Opps, forgot a few...

Met Andre the Giant at the Milwaukee Arena, boy he was a Giant.

Met Ivan Koloff in a nightclub and almost got into a brawl wity Dirty Dick Murdock (he tag teamed with Dusty Rhodes) in the same club. It was a C&W club and a friend of mine was drunk... the music was playing and just the second the music stopped my friend shouts "Dick Murdock is a fag". Lucky Koloff, The Russian Bear (he was from Cleveland I think) was able to calm down Murdock before he got to my friend.

I met quite a few musicians in college after their performances at the Newport Music Hall (across the street from The Ohio State University) Most notable, Smashing Pumpkins, Violent Femmes, The Sundays, Poi Dog Pondering, Veruca Salt, Blind Melon, Les Claypool (Primus), plus many more I can't remember right now. Going to concerts there sucked up a LOT of my free cash.

My senior prom date played Glory on the TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer; Clare Kramer.

Jeez, how could I forget Ali, I delivered papers to his house way back when he lived in Cherry Hill, NJ. Didn't exactly meet him but he did give me a "How's it going kid" once. It's not like he came to the door to pay the paper bill every week. :p
