Brushing those choppers

After I smoke lately I brush my teeth within 20 minutes of finishing. With all the scare's of mouth and throat cancer, it seems like the logical thing to do. The other night I went to bed late after smoking a cigar and forgot to brush. Not only did I have ultra funky breath in the morning, my gums were bleeding a bit. That's my story. I'm curious to know what the other common brushing (if at all) habits are with BOTLs and SOTLs after smoking. :)

I have to brush right after, if I'm at home. The wife requires it! :D

And it's a small price to pay to make her happy... ;)

Never had or heard of anyone having that particular problem. I'd check with your dentist as that doesn't sound too good.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering the same thing because that's what I do. I completely scour my mouth after smoking, which includes brushing, gargling, tongue scraping and sometimes gargling again. Besides wanting fresh breath after smoking a cigar, I wonder if it helps any (even just a little) in flushing any of the toxins that contribute to problems that you mention above as well as others.

I seriously doubt brushing your teeth does anything to decrease risk of mouth cancer, or any cancer. As for bleeding gums - you might be brushing too hard :)

I used to brush right after...now I don't really bother because I usually smoke at night and go to bed pretty soon after. The morning after I used to wake up with a cigar taste in my mouth...now I don't. Is that bad? :whistling:

It depends on when I have a smoke, I only brush my teeth on Wednesdays, so usually the taste lingers a while.
:p

So that explains a lot!

I use a an electric tootbrush...works great; initially expensive but my teeth never felt so clean. I also use tartar control mouthwash....seems to work. Although being 5000 miles from my wife really doesn't matter what I do right before I got to bed...... :0 okay I'm talking about dental hygiene here.

Well I brush and gargle every night before bed and morning regardless of smoking that day or not, typically I don’t brush immediately after although I typically never smoke at home either.

See what I can tell my wife... Cigar smoking is good for me - it gets me to brush, gargle and scrape! Otherwise, I just half-ass it. Unfortunately I don't think she'll buy that one.
