So I was outside by the grill this afternoon, when my doberman went flopping across the yard yelping and crying and really freaking out. Come to find out that he just discovered a huge either hornet or yellow jacket nest in the base of this tree outside. I guess he stuck his nose in the wrong spot.

Normally, I don't really pay much attention to wasp's and bee's etc, but these things are nasty. Big bright yellow ass ends on them, and when they get startled, they seem to come after you.

So far, I've doused them with lighter fluid, lit wd 40 and sprayed it at them, and then went to the store and got some raid. The only stuff they had said flying insect killer, but it didn't even seem to faze them.

These little bastards gotta go.

Dude, that sucks. I almost got stung at the in-laws this weekend, while my father in law did...luckily he's not alergic, but I am. Unfortunatly, I'm extrememly alergic to poison ivy...hopefully I didn't get that. Hope all worked out for you. :)

Go to HD or Lowes and get Wasp/Hornet killer, you can spray it from about 20 ft awat and it basically kills on contact. Get 3-4 cans and soak that nest.

That's what I used! I had a nest under my house. It killed them on contact! Just be sure to get all them bastids!!!
Good luck bro!!!

If you have one near you, go to a feed store type business. There is one not far from me (it's actually where we get our dog's food). They have the professional grade hornet/wasp killer in the big cans, and it also sprays further, faster(important--soak that nest before they get out...and after you!), and at a nice "shotgun" pattern that covers a pretty good sized nest at 25". When I had some of the nasty white faced hornets in a basketball sized nest, I grabbed two cans, put on long sleeves/pants just in case, went out just after dusk (safest time, apparently), and hit that neast with both barrels...overkill, perhaps, but I know I didn't get stung once. I don't mind bees much, but those hornets up here are vicious.

Spray don't work if they're in the ground. I've been stung way too many times by these bastards when I was a kid. Your best bet is to get the nest. Get some dirt and a shovel. Put about 6 inches over the hole and leave it be. They might eventually dig their way out, but this has killed them for me in the past.

I've used a combination of what's suggested above. Wait 'til dusk (they've all returned to the nest by then) and from a safe distance, soak the opening with wasp/hornet spray. Go inside. Come back out awhile later, and if they're no still active, cover the hole with dirt and a rock. JMO

Japanese hornets...........or at least that's what we call 'em over on this side of NC.......dump in some gas and plug the hold.......and they have a NASTY sting BTW............

Don't know about hornets but your avatar has got me LMAO
every time I look at it.
