I’m new to the forum and admit I’m a bit of a cigar newbie. I’m going to Brazil in a few weeks for a fishing trip. Will be flying to Manaus, Brazil then off to the jungle for 7 days. I arrive in Manaus a day before the rest of my group does, and they’ve asked me to shop for some good Cuban cigars to take with us for the week.

My question is, has anyone ever been to Manaus? Will I be able to find good Cubans? Do I need to worry about “fakes”? Any suggestions on where to buy, which brands, etc.? How much do they cost? I’ll be staying at the Tropical Hotel and I’ve heard they have a shopping mall in the hotel, so that might be an option.

Thanks.

Who are ya. Lemme check your profile. Oh never mind. Lemme check the intro section. Oh never mind.

Do us all a favor fill out your profile and introduce yourself first. Its the customary thing to do here.

Welcome to the jungle and enjoy the ride.

1) What shooter said.

2) If you are an American Citizen, keep in mind that it is illegal to buy Cubans, even outside the country

3) YES you have to worry about fakes. If you are a person who can legallybuy such things, cehck out the La Casa Del Habano. They are the official store, and sell the genuine thing, albeit at a slight premium to other stores.

4) Enjoy your trip! How to see you around the forums, and get to know you.

Sorry for not filling out my profile info...I'm new to this forum thing.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea it's still illegal to buy them even when not on U.S. soil. That's interesting.

Welcome to CP, I hope you enjoy the visit. A wealth of information here to be found here.

I just returned from a month-long visit to Angra Dos Reis. What a great place. Be aware that Brazil has a significant tax on non-brazilian cigars. You may find that a box that would normally sell for $150 (about 300 Reis) will be as much 300% higher. BTW I found that Dannemann's cigars were a treat. They are grown and rolled in Bahia, Brazil.
