It seems every so often the bill rises a few bucks here and there. I try to keep it at a certain rate and when it gets to high I call and haggle and they drop it back down. This time the guy tells me I been a customer for so long they raised my rates up 5 dollars.

Normally they reduce the rates. I think I am gonna cancel and resign up in my wifes name.

Shane, I can feel your pain brother, I have to do this to the DSL company EVERY October, (my renewal date). They try to jack my price up for being a paying customer for another year, while the new subscribers get the lowest rate..

Switch to satellite bro..

This is what happens when you don't have any competition in an area, same goes for the telcos. They reason they do this is because of the cost of putting in lines. I can't think of a good way to fix this unless the gov steps in and handles the communications infrastructure while the companies handle content delivery.
