Call for Prayer

I have a close friend of 25 years in Milwaukee. If you have two or three friends like Rick in your life you are an extemely lucky person. He is the sort of person who always listens to you, makes you feel important, likes fine things without putting on airs. In short a better man than me.

Last night some guy took him out head-on on a rural road in Wisconsin. His heart stopped on the scene, they got it going again and airlifted him to a hospital. The doctors held out no hope for him. They put him on life support and were hoping to keep him alive long enough for relatives to visit before he passed. He has a living will so they disconnected him and to their surprise his heart got stronger, his blood started clotting to stave off the internal bleeding, and he had a few moments of consciousness this morning. The doctors are flabergasted I am told. Now they are getting him to stabilize a little more, they are or have removed part of one lung and are stuggling to save a foot that got absolutley crushed. The other leg is broken also. They do not know about brain damage. These are the details as best I know them.

Rick, myself, and another friend get together at least once a year to fish, play golf, and have a few smokes and beers together. Either I fly out there, they fly out east, or we meet out on the Great Lakes for walleye fishing.

If he does not make it there will be a huge hole in a lot of lives. He has a wife and four children. The man is truly a prince. He has called me at least once a week in the past few months to help me through some bumps in my road.

I have been looking forward to another 30 years of smelly fish, smellier cigars, bad golf, and good conversation with Rick. God, I pray he makes it.

I know some of you are praying men and ask yours be added. All others please think a positive thought for him as you light your next one up.

Father in Heaven,

You are Jehova Raffa, the God who heals, the Great Physician. There is no where You can’t reach, no one You can’t touch. Father, we come to you gathered as a brotherhood and a community to ask in one accord that You would show your mercy and grace and heal your servant. Lord place Your healing hands across his body and give him comfort and peace as You send Your Holy Spirit to minister to his soul. Surround him with angels Lord and guide the hands of the health care professionals who are attending to him. Father God, we ask that Your Holy Spirit would give peace and comfort those family and friends who also have lifted their voices up to you in petition. Lord, we thank You in advance for the miracles You are about to do in the lives of your children.

We ask these things in agreement with each other in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and for His Glory. Amen and Amen
 
Our prayers go out to all involved in this tragic event. The Lord uses all things to glorify Himself, only we who live in the moment, can't see the immediate or eventual consequences until we look back, sometimes years later.

Lord, I ask right now in the mighty name of Christ Jesus, for you to send this family strength and the peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord, please place warrior angels around the family involved and inside that circle, ministering angels to guide and direct each family member as they deal with this time of trial and testing. I pray that if even one of them does not know you as their intimate Savior, a seed may be planted for future harvesting by the Holy Spirit. Remind them in their weakest moments that this is just a storm, to stand and go through, leaning on you for the strength that only you can provide. Please let the unified prayers of the body restore this man to perfect health. Having witnessed your power and miracles, I ask in the precious name of Jesus, that you would manifest one now, for your glory through your mercy and grace. I speak this now by faith knowing the battle has already been won!! Amen.

Keep the faith, brother. And keep us updated and expect a miracle and sit back and watch God work!

Thanks all. I visited him yesterday for the first time in the hospital yesterday. More surgury tomorrow. Another prayer, please. God seems to listening. Everyday something new and good is happening. But is going to be a long hard climb.
 
I'll take that as a praise report. Yes Tom, God is listening and watching and in fact, He's right in the middle of it.

You'll have to forgive me, pre. I am pretty raw right now.
I find I am more pissed off when I think that than comforted. But things are as they are. He is improving each day, will need surgery twice a week for the next month.
 
Believe me Tom, I understand oh so well. And I'm so very sorry that you are all going through this pain. I've thought all day about what I might be able to say to explain how God is in control of this and how He is working a plan that you can find comfort and peace in. But I realize that's not what you need right now. I doubt you're looking for a bible study on "why bad things happen to good people".

The hard reality is that you and people you care about are suffering. It may seem that the fear and anguish is so intense and relentless that it could never get better. But it will!!!In these times when God may seem distant and silent, continue to find solace on the shoulders of those who you know are faithful. Their faith will stand in the gap when yours wobbles and their love for you will help to give you strength until one day you suddenly think to yourself "Hey! I've smiled today". And your own faith will begin strengthen again.

Tom, we will continue to pray for you, Rick, and all those who are struggling through this ordeal. Stay hopeful brother.

Just thought I would bump this and add the latest news from the email updates I get on my friend Rick.

As always, thank you for your daily prayers for Rick, Lynne and their family. I know that they are depending on them and appreciate every card, letter, call, and prayer.

Lynne just called me and was so excited! She called the hospital to check on Rick and they had him sitting in a chair!

This is the first time in three weeks that he's been off of his back. They feel that it's important, even just for a few minutes each day to start doing this. Emily (his daughter) was there and said he didn't like to too much. I'm sure it was uncomfortable especially with the respirator still in and his right left still broken and not set yet. Plus the left leg and right arm are set and still healing.

Rick is very alert. He has been shaking his head a lot, smiling, and trying to talk. He's been able to whisper some words out. He also moves his left arm and his leg.

As I mentioned, he still has the respirator in. His breathing isn't strong enough on his own, so he needs the help of the respirator. Please continue to pray that his lungs get strong and the clot dissolves on it's own that is near his lung.

His liver count went down 9 points yesterday from 30 to 21. They seemed very pleased with that.

He still has a fever, so continue to pray that it breaks soon.

Rick has a long recovery ahead of him and needs your prayers.

I appreciate those who have taken the time to say a prayer or add a postive thought. And I know others of you have had some tough **** to deal with lately as well and my heart goes out to you, too. Somehow a prayer seems to help sometimes.

Some people may call it sacreligious but I don't really think this is: I was raised Catholic, read the Old Testament, and have been taught that of old that God enjoys prayers wrapped in a delicious smoke. Anyway, thanks all.
 
Continue to keep us informed on his condition and rest assured, we will continue to keep his family, you and him, in our prayers. And just remember, even the Pope said that we are saved by grace alone so I wouldn't worry too much about lighting one up in honor of your friend (And God did say to pray constantly, too). Our best to you all.
 
I'm happy to hear he's improving. I know he still has a way to go yet and my thoughts continue to be with him and his family.
