Calling all bitheads

I hope that after you get this sorted out that you seriously look into some type of backup solution to at least keep your logs safe.

i had a similar problem with an old HDD, turned out i had a bad power supply for the enclosure. replaced the power supply and works like a charm. the drive shows up as a drive.
IMHO, HDD's in an enclosure need a power source, not enough power coming through the USB alone.

I have seen this happen with several laptops.
The USB port is not pushing enough power to support an external drive. Switched the drive to an enclosure that has it's own power supply and problem solved.

What's the word of the day Kiddies?
BACKUP
BACKUP
BACKUP :)

edit cuz I kant spelz rite.

If you're just looking for a cheap way to back up data like text files use Gmail with its free gig of space. Just email yourself a copy of the info and it's stored in a password protected server. Another HD is great for large files, but if a fire happens or your HD fries then your SOL on getting to your information.

Backup yea that would be too easy, but yea now with three external hard drives, I will. I am a bonehead...

Thanks for you help. I might need some more once I get this all sorted out. The external power supply worked like a charm, I guess a laptop doesn't put out as much juice as a desktop through the USB ports.

Thanks again
Shane
