Calling all San Diego County BOTLs

Flying into LA yesterday morning I could see the smoke and path of the fire. It was a massive site, almost surreal as it hung below the plane. I honestly had no idea the fires were this bad when I left Denver. My prayers are with all of you who this is affecting.

We have evacuated. We are at a friends house in La Jolla...really sucks. Watching the news!

Brian

Sorry to hear of the news, Brian. Please let us know when you're back home and safe.

Prayers for you, your family and all the others affected by the fires in SoCal.

Hey folks,

Boingboing had a good post on the fires, and of course Google is chipping in:

Google's got an interactive map of 'what's up' here

Just donated to the Red Cross, you can make your donation San Diego specific, apparently the local agencies are overwhelmed and running out of supplies.

It is an amazing fire. Thanks for all the well wishes for my family and for all the So Cal BOTLs.

The fire in North County is now less than two miles from my Mom's as it changed direction this morning and she is under suggested evac. This is the first time in 30 years I've heard her sound scared and she want to leave So Cal. The local FD is trying to hold the line.

We are back home, our area opened up. Other than dirt everywhere, we are good. My wife said, this place is disgusting and we both looked at each other and at the same time said..."thank goodness we have something to clean up"

Thanks for the wishes guys, now we need to send thoughts to all the folk that are displaced, there are many!

Brian

The air outside is horrible. I'm in Pasadena, there are 6 major fires going in so cal. Sky is an ugly dark brown. Shame to see the destruction these fires have caused.

Brian,

Glad and relieved that you are home safe Brother!

I have packed the Missus and the Wee One off to the in-laws up northeast (Palm Desert) because the air quality is so poor here. My lungs feel like crap. The air quality combined with the fact that the Fallbrook fire is still going strong (10 miles away) and two fires on Camp Pendleton, which we are right next to, we felt it prudent to clear out. I was headed to NorCal for work tomorrow morning early and did not want to leave them alone.

Another one BOTL, SDcigarsmkr, is packed and ready to run from Bonita which is where the Harris Fire is headed. Last I spoke to him it was getting close. Parade is sitting pretty and is not threatened. I have not heard anything from bigvinnySD, eringg or Rigo and I pray they are safe.

The Governator is here now (though without a cigar) and Bush is coming Thursday to see first hand the damage. Outside is like a waste land with hardly anyone to be seen, very bizzare with a "Twilight Zone" feel.

Stay safe everyone!

Charlie

Wow Charlie, I didn't realize it was getting that bad in O'side. I hope your Family is safe now, my Mom is waiting out 1 more day and then coming out here to Dallas. Keep us posted and again, Thnak you for the call and info.

Hey Charlie, sorry to hear that.

Everyone was waiting for the wind to slow down but when it did, it turned from E to W, causing a huge problem for the fire fighters.

Brian

Air quality sucks up here too, my lungs are sore. Wish I had an air purifier in my house, I think I need to break down and buy one. It's a little odd that so many fires are going on right now.........

I am a little sheltered from the news here and, I had no idea this was as bad as it is. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that are caught in this horrific tragedy.

I hope all the Cali B/SOTL make it through this tremendous ordeal, and Jeff, glad to hear that your Mom is on her way to TX.

One last call of strength for all the firefighters putting it on the line....

Tim

Google Earth has an amazing feature that shows the fire locations as they are being reported. Zoom in to any part of the map and click on the dots for information about the fire at that location.
