My Canon digital rebel's auto focus doesn't work now, and the photographs are almost completely blacked out. Has anyone ever experienced these problems w/ a Canon SLR, and if so, what was the repair cost (i have it boxed up ready to go to Canon).
thanks
Frank
the mirror may be stuck in the down position, the autofocus sensor points may be dirty, lens contacts may be dirty (the gold/silver squares that make contact with the body, you may wanna try using an eraser on them, see if that fixes it).
have you tried another lens on the camera to see if it is a lens issue vs. a body issue?
and is the battery ok? (i know that is the obvious one, i once sold an ipod to someone, he told me he couldn't hear anything, turns out he didn't have the volume up). repair costs are the only factor that cannot be determined until a bench tech has a look at it. bench rates vary from $30-$100 / hr + diagnostic fees. if your camera is still under warranty, send it off to canon, if not, bring it to a local camera shop, it will certainly be cheaper than the factory rates. hope this helps,
Rob
