Casa Del Habano in Tijuana

I made my first trip ever down to Tijuana, Mexico a couple of weeks ago and
stopped in at Casa Del Habano at 1115 Ave. Revolucion. I smoked what may or
may not be a Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 1. It was a really great
cigar, so I ordered a whole box to be sent to me. When I received the box a
few days later and looked inside, it was a totally different cigar than what
I smoked at the store. To top it all off the cigars that were sent to me
tasted like poison. That lesson cost me $390.00.

When I went to the LCDH in Cozumel, I noticed everything to be a bit "fishy." The price alone was enough to keep me from buying anything, but the cigars themselves just didn't seem right, even though they are "authorized" dealers. Still doesn't prohibit them from running scams. I just took some pics, ordered a drink, and went about my day.

Call, e-mail or fax and ask to talk to David and explain the problem to him. Not sure if it will do any good, but it can't hurt.

All the cigars boxes that are supposed to be from Cuba are said to
have this square hologram You'll notice in the Cigar Aficionado article, they say that every box
leaving the islans has the sticker on it. I don't know anybody or know
of any website that can identify the hologram that is on the box that
I bought from your store. Does the sticker come from Cuba or
from Mexico? Can you show me any official reference to it anywhere?
The box was dated March 2002. When I get to work I will email you
the serial number. As far as the taste of the cigars, this is a whole other
issue. You may want to replace your humidification system at the store.
There is a possibility that The metal container that holds the water has
somehow affected the taste of cigars that have been there a long time.
They have a bitterness that is just not normal for tobbaco of any kind.

If you guys had not been keeping Hoyo Coronas in Epicure boxes
then this whole thing would not have happened. I would have gotten
the Coronas that I wanted and maybe you guys would have discovered
the bad box of Epicures some other way. The Coronas tasted great,
so, I wouldn't have cared even if they were fakes. You cannot maintain
any reputation for integrity if you switch cigars and boxes. If it was my
store I'd be down cleaning things up right now. How do you expect
employees of a leather shop to suddenly know anything about cigars?
They don't, and they are going to ruin your business unless you train them.

I have to get proof that what I got from you was not fake.
I need proof that I can bring to my friends and my wife to show that I'm not
a
complete idiot who will believe anybody. I will assist you in anyway
I can to get to the bottom of this. There are almost 3000 people on a cigar
mailing list, that I am a member of, who are currently aware of our dispute.
I can't stress how important it is that somebody explain exactly where that
hologram came from.

John,

You are no idiot and I understand your concern. Your box was never switched or changed by any means what happens that many Cigar connoisseurs think they know it all but don’t. What says in Cigar Aficionado is every box leaving the island if you buy internally not for export. When we get our boxes from Cuba we import the Holograms on when the boxes are Mexican Customs and put that sticker because here in Mexico counterfeit cigars are out of proportion. If you go to any merchant outside of Cuba or even better yet LCDH in Canada call them up and you will see that there is no Square Hologram like the ones used internally on the island. If you could get a chance to come down to LCDH-TJ I will personally be your host to you as my guest and prove to you that you did not get taken for and show you how business is done in Mexico I will also take you to the where house to show you how and where we put on those Holograms and if you come early before 2:00pm I will let you call Habanos from our shop and will connect you with the vice president of the corporation Habanos S.A. I will also show you how Cigar Aficionado comes to us for questions about Habanos Cigars. Let me know and please stop thinking you were taken that is not true I will prove it but it is hard to do so over the internet. I guarantee that I will prove to you everything I have said to be write or I will return the money you have spent without returning the cigars. But if I prove you wrong all I want is for you not to think you were taking for. And not beleave everything you hear. One thing is to not like the cigar you have purchased and we at LCDH always give 100% money back guarantee, always. Sometimes we don't get back to you until 2 to three days at the most, but as other customers know we have always done good right if you want to go to the BBB (Profeco) I will take you there myself that is not a problem.

Sounds reasonable to me. I wouldn't spend that kind of dough on cubans though--better prices all around you right here at HP.
dreamways, what's up with your post count? It keeps resetting itself.

OK, I'll take your word for it for now. I just left a message for some guy
at
Cigar Aficionado about this. They transferred my call so I'm not sure what
the
guy's name is. Hopefully he will call back. I need a third party to
confirm what
you are saying to put this to rest for good. Have you got a phone number of
somebody over there that I can call?

About the issue of putting Coronas in Epicure boxes. There is no excuse for
this. Please go to your store and confirm what I am saying with your own
eyes.
I realize that the Epicure boxes are smaller and fit on the shelves better,
but
that can't be an excuse for selling Coronas as Epicures. This is why I
ended up
with a box of Epicures instead of Coronas. Please explain to your employees
that this is fraud and tell them to stop doing it.

I spent $390.00 and never got my Hoyo Coronas. I gave away and threw
away all but one of the Epicures. At this stage I think it is best if I
just get
my money back. I am too angry with your company to accept replacements.

John,
Like I said once before we do not sell Hoyo Coronas and never did you are mistaken. We are not in the business of switching boxes the box you bought is the box you received and that is that. You are trying to degrade LCDH in Tijuana for no apparent reason. I have said even though you threw away gave away or what ever you did with the cigars to give you your full money back if I can’t convince you without a reasonable doubt here in LCDH-TJ but if you just want me to return your money without coming here or returning the cigars I just can not do that.
