I'm looking to get a new phone with TMobile. I can get the Razr V3 for free right now. I've called TMobile and spoke to several reps there, however none of them seem to know anything about their own product/service. I'm hoping someone out there can answer this question...

If I get the Razr V3 through tmobile, and also add on tmobile web for $5.99/mo, can I access my gmail for free? Also, can I install the gmail app (provided by gmail) on that phone? Will IMAP work?

Thanks :)

I got rid of T-Mobile because of all the dead spots I had in NYC no less. Went back to Verizon, YMMV

If it has a jvm, it will probably/possibly work. That said, it's going to be a real pain to reply without a qwerty keyboard, whether it's software (iPhone) or hardware (PocketPC or Palm). I get my email through Agendus Mail on a Palm Centro (Sprint).

I've had tmobile before, luckily their coverage is pretty good in LA. More concerned about reading email, rather than responding.

Slip your BB past the Feds! Even if you don't, pay the freight. You won't regret it - like I am right now.

We've had very good luck with AT&T. The other guys, not so much. If you always stay in the L.A. area then no prob. Our office guys travel all over the country and often overseas. AT&T is second to none in coverage anywhere we go.

If you are talking about the plain V3, then I would definitely step up to the V3xx. Much better phone IMO. I despised the regular RAZR when I had it. Especially if you plan to use web or email apps, the V3xx is many times faster than the V3. The features, the interface, everything is much better with the V3xx and well worth the extra money.

I don't know much else about other lines of phones out there. If email and web apps are particularly important to you, I'm thinking there is probably a better choice out there than the Motorola flips. Me?? I just want a friggen phone with quick and basic access to news, weather and sports info, and I don't even use those features much.

I've always said... "All cell phones suck. The trick is to find the one that sucks the least for you."

Good luck and good hunting.

Thanks for the feedback. I went to the TMobile store this afternoon, and after checking out all of the phones, I was thoroughly disappointed. After having a Blackberry for the past 5 years, it's tough to go back to a flip phone. I decided to get the new Curve. Great device, glad I got it. Funny thing is, I got it for free!

While I was at the store, a freak'n robbery occurred! These two gang members came in, and they were acting very suspicious. They were standing near the demo booth for like 15 min. All of a sudden, an alarm went off, and I saw these two morons run out of the store and into their getaway car. Quite an interesting experience. They had cut the cord on the phone and ran out with it. Little do they know that TMobile sent a kill command to the phone, so the device will be permanently fried and useless. Not only that, but the rep wrote down the license plate number, the cops came, and so on...

I got the phone for free since they screwed up my number port. Ended up being at the store for 3 1/2 hours. They said my phone would not work for 24 hrs, hence the reason they gave me such a great deal (to make up for the inconvenience). Definitely an interesting afternoon...

I knew you didn't strike me as a plain RAZR type of guy.

I got to this thread a bit late. But for anyone else wondering, gmail has a mobile format that will allow about any handsets mobile web browser to access it. As for the app, it's pretty universal, while not terribly user friendly. Not alot of images, but you can get your email at least.

Nice choice on the curve Rod.
