Central Cali Wine Advice

I am usually on the beer boards but I needed some advice. I am having a get together for my B-Day this weekend and a few friends with their wives are coming along. Some of the women said they like wine, Syrah's. So I was going to pick up a 2003 Palm Cellars Paso Robles Syrah ... has anyone had this and is it pretty good? Would you recommend it?

To be honest, I have not. My favourite wine is Quail Creek from Whole Foods. Costs about $4 a bottle lol. As you can imagine my tastes are not very refined. However I crave their White Zinfandel when having a slice of cheesecake. Cmon guys and gals. Help Mike out here. I obviously can't.
