My wife got a call today from the school nurse that our son was in her office, complaining of being dizzy and looking white as a sheet. Since both of us had been sick this week, she went ahead and took him to the doctor as a precaution. The doctor said it was a stomach virus that was going around, just keep him hydrated, give him Motrin for the fever. My wife then call her aunt (she gets him to and from school, and watches him til we get home from work) to tell her that he sick and would be with her all day tomorrow. She asked my wife if she had heard about the salmonella/peanut butter thing going on right now, that he had eaten some out of a newly opened jar this week during a snow day. Wife brought the jar home for me to check out. Sure enough, Peter Pan with the product code starting with 2111!!

Well we freaked out, called the hospital to speak to the pediatrician on call, told him all the info we just found out. He said they think now that it could be salmonella and not the flu. We still need to keep him hydrated, and get a stool sample (guess which parent isn't going to be doing that ;) ) and bed rest. So far he only has had a fever and stomach cramps. Just thought I'd give everyone a "heads up" to check their codes.

I'd freak too !!
Thank goodness your wife's Aunt thought about that!!

Take Care !

I'm glad you figured out the culprit Dan.

Here's to a his speedy return to full health!

We pray that this will all work out and all will be healthy. Thanks for the info and update. Peanut Butter is one of those food groups for those of us with kids!!! Ouch!!

I wish your son a speedy recovery. Having experienced salmonellosis myself, I can empathize. There was a pretty bad outbreak in Chicago in the mid-eighties due to tainted milk. I got sick after having a bowl of cereal at a friend's house. Not pleasant. :(

Good thing you posted this because I have 3 great Nephews and 3 Great Nieces so I called my Sis-n-Law to make sure she was aware of this. Good thing too...because she forgot to call the 2 Nieces of mine.

Thank God the only PB in the cabinet is that NATURAL kind that has to be stirred ( or all the oil will accumulate in the top). I hate dealing with it so I haven't had PB in MONTHS!! And I LOVE PB...

Hope the little guy has a speedy recovery. It's sad when we can no longer rely on our food supply being safe.

I'm glad my wife is a "choosy mom"...

hahahah, i just finish smoking my camacho black, so i decide i need a pb sandwich to watch the nicotine kick and read this post. thank god my peter pan pb isn't 2111. but i hope your fam feels better.

Damn, sorry to hear about your son. Hope he gets well soon.

I checked after I heard about this earlier, and sure enough, we've got the dreaded "2111" PB in the cabinet, half eaten. My son and I go through quite a bit of it, but luckily ours apparently isn't tainted.

My kids raised hell when we switched to natural peanut butter (they loved Peter Pan), so i'm gonna make them say "You were right Dad" ;)

Hope you child gets better Dan!

My Dad just checked his 3/4 empty jar of Peter Pan and it's the bad stuff, but luckily he hasn't had any symtoms and feels fine.

Checked my 1/2 eaten jar of Peter Pan and it is the dreaded '2111'.

Wife only eats Jif and this will add to her only having Jif in the house. Man i'm going to miss Peter Pan. :(

Several of the articles claim there is a recall and others are saying to throw out the suspected PB. ???
