I am making a trip to Chicago in July. I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency on Waker. Can anyone give me some good info on shops or cigar bars near there? Preferably walking distance.

Thanks in advance.

Johnny

Iwan Reis cigar store, 19 s. wabash, not too far from where you're staying. Probably the oldest and most knowledgeable cigar store in Chicago. You won't be disappointed, take a cab from where you'll be staying.

Just so you know, Skokie will be a drive. it's got one hell of a lounge and some big humi's! :) Updown tobacco is supposed to be another great shop in Chicago. I was going to first mention Jack Schwartz - I was in the city about a block away 2 weeks ago, but was unable to stop in :(..stupid friends lol. Enjoy the city!!!!

Really no CIGAR bars left in Chicago. As the non smoking ban passed earlier this year.

Decent shops you must visit all downtown but with small smoking areas. Some decent cigars to be found.

All within in walking distance (if you dont mind walking)

-Iwan Reis on Wabash
-Jack Schwartz in the financial district (say hi to eric)
-Hubbard street cigars on hubbard street. (say hi to neil)

If you jum on the "EL" brown line and get off on Sedgwick and walk a cple blocks east you can check out UP DOWN TOBACCO this is Diane Silvius place. MUCHO EXPENSIVO.

If you stay on the brown line and get off on the BELMONT stop and walk east youwill find a little hole in the wall called BLUE HAVANA. (right by my work) decent selection and in a funky part of town.

If you get off on the same stop and walk west about 5 blocks you will hit AROUND THE WORLD TOBACCO. Ok selection.

Up Down is a really great store. Its in a fancy location, and the prices are somewhat fancy but not out of control. But its a gorgeous little store with great selection and knowledgeable staff. Last time I was there they added some stools and some patrons were smoking and chatting it up with the staff.

Also, Blue Havana is a bit further north, but they carry Illusione, if your into those.

Bonfire Smoke,

Stop by if you get a chance, we'd love to see you. We're not really a lounge-type place but I'll be more than happy to kick one of the traders out of a seat for you. We start early here, open at 7:30 in the morning. Give me a heads up and I'll have a cup of coffee and a cigar waiting for you! If you need any help finding us or if you have any questions about where to go or what to do in Chicago please don't hesitate to give us a buzz: 888-733-5225
Hope to see you in July.

Thanks,
Eric

Now that is cool.

WOW!,

Thanks to each of you for the information. I will surely try to visit as many of these as possible. Eric, I will definitely be coming your way. I don't know if I will be able to get there early enough for coffee, but I will come by.

Thanks again and I hope to see some of you soon,

Johnny

This doesn't pertain to cigars, but I would strongly suggest eating at a place called Giordano's while you are there. My wife and I visited Chicago nearly 2 years ago and it was the best pizza we've ever had. We ate at the location by the Sears tower. There pizza is so good that I had them ship me one packed in dry ice not too long ago. It was the most expensive pizza I've ever bought, but worth it!

Great, now I have you and your buddy Scott T. busting my chops about my slacker-like attitude at work  , if Billy finds out he'll stop giving me my one free Macanudo a day!
I said "WE" are open at 7:30 am, and by "we" I mean Kenny (the only reliable person who works here).
Stop by any time, Alex, I'll bust out the can of Sanka and whip us up a couple cups of java! Seriously, though, I do owe you a cup of coffee. I'll even hit you with a cigar from my stash here.

Eric

Eric,

I'll make sure I say hi next time I am downtown and in the shop. You have helped me several times, but I didn't realize you were on the Board here. I'm the guy that Billy gave the 858 to a while back. I was in right before St. Paddy's Day, but I didn't see you around.

Brian

Alex, see what you started! Now everyone's looking for free coffee. Well you can stop in but you ain't getting any free coffee, ChiTown_Huck!
"I was in right before St. Paddy's Day, but I didn't see you around." Great, so now you're accusing me of being a slacker, too!
:D

Okay, I put the smiley face after the whole paragraph so hopefully no one thinks I'm serious. I definitely remember you, Brian. Stop by when you get a chance, I'll make you some Sanka as well  .

Eric

WHOA! Did you say Sanka. I think I will bring my Community Coffee with me. I remember as a kid my grandparents drank Sanka and that stuff was terrible. Eric, I will bring you some real coffee. I think they even make it in decafe now.

Johnny

Oh man, you need to try their fresh beans, and grind them right before brewing. Its exceptional.

Lavazza is great stuff too. So is Illy.
