Hey Guys,

As a n00b to cigars I wanted to ask the etiquette on cigar bands. Do you peel em before ya enjoy your cigar or do you leave it on?

Thanks for a new home for my new "hobby"

Thankfully I tried an Acid Cold infusion the other day and the wife tried it and she kept asking for more so thankfully I can tempt her with "we can try a new one!"

DoH!
this was supposed to be in cigar lounge and not lobby.

Welcome to CP. To get you started on the right foot, you need to fill out your profile, go the the Introduce Yourself Here Forum to make it official, and tell us about yourself.

As for your question, there is no right or wrong answer for this. There is also a search function not only in each forum section, but also for the entire site where this has been discussed many times in the past.

Welcome!

Short answer: do what you want to.

Some of us here smoke band on, some band off. it is personal preference. Like whether you wear your underwear inside or outside your clothes.

Use the Search, Luke.

it only works when you spell things correctly such as, "Bands" instead of "bnds"

I really should get more sleep.

Imma go head over and make an intro thread!
Blabber about myself for a couple a minutes.

Taking off the cigar band used to be a sign of modesty and regard for the fellows you smoke with. Since, in this day and age, modesty is no longer a virtue, do what you wish.

Doc.

I light my cigar, give it a few puffs to get it going, then remove the band. I hardly ever smoke a cigar w/ the band on.

I smoke it with the band on all the way until the band starts to burn and then I wear the band as a ring so everyone can still see it!!

I take the band off right away, then put either the Forbidden X or Padron Millenium band I keep in my wallet on the dog rocket I'm smoking, that way all the SuCKaS think I'm smoking the SHiZNiT, yo!

I like to take the band off right away....then i lick it and stick it to my forehead, well in my case it closer to a five head.....

ummm glue.....

I usually wait till it gets close to the band and then I remove it but I only do that so that the glue can heat up and make the removal easier. Do what you want though man. Anyone that actually cares what another man does with his cigar band deserves a swift kick in the face. Who really gives a shit bro! Enjoy the cigar.

You guys peel the label off of wine bottles out of modesty, too?

At some point, the regime you go through for modesty's sake becomes immodest in itself. ;)

As far as I've been able to determine from researching it, it's largely urban legend that there was ever a day and age (or place) where the accepted norm was to remove the cigar band out of modesty. Certainly some people did; and other people didn't. Just like today.

The only reasons against removing the bands, IMHO, are that you may tear the wrapper, and you also lose something to grip the cigar without getting your sweaty mitts all over it. That's only an issue when it's very warm out, of course, and probably doesn't make much of a difference anyway.

Do what ya like.
