So I'm new here and just thought I'd see who else is like me. I'm relatively new to cigar smoking (started in Sept at REALLY smoking, although I'd had one or two here and there for years)(although college is still a bit "early" i think... but who cares!). Since I'm still new I keep a little black book where I lgue in the band, and write my quick thoughts on each cigar, and what size it was. Ya know, just to come back to later down the line if I forget if I've had something, or what it was like if I've forgotten.
So far, I'm really lovin' the RP Vintage 1992s, Don Lino Africas, Felipe Gregorio Dos Capas, and the Don Tomas Candelas are my candela of choice.

So who else is nerdy enough to keep a cigar journal :laugh:

LOL, I guess mine's on the same level except I added a bit of geek to it by keeping a spreadsheet on the PC here. Its good to keep track of what you like and what you don't like. Especially if you get into a pass and have a few nice smokes that you did not particularly care for that you could pass on and see if others share your feelings on the stick. Like the Baccarat 'The Game' I just had. Was a decent smoke, but now I have a ashtray lick taste in my mouth *goes to enter it in the spreadsheet*.

Oh yeah, and welcome to CP. Pull up a chair and get ready to learn.

Go to the above thread and make an introduction. Also, fill out your profile. We like to really get to know who we're talking to. This site is more than a place to learn about cigars. Its more of a brotherhood than anything. We use such terms as 'brother' to refer to each other because that is what it feels like around here. Glad to have you among the new cigar smokers. I'm a newer member here and even newer to cigars so its refreshing to see someone else take the plunge into this ever evolving addiction.

Also, I've been toying with the idea of starting a journal but I just don't want to focus on having to write stuff down while I smoke. I've got an OK memory so I like to think I can just remember things.

This has been discussed several times, including once in the last month or so. Search for "journal" and I'm sure you'll find some relevant posts.

I've found mine to be very helpful in nailing down the particular profile that I REALLY like. It is a useful tool.
 
I've thought of starting one, and probably will in the near future. One of the reasons I'd like to keep the journal is that cigar smoking is a piece of who I am, and such a journal might interest future grandkids, great grandkids.

I'm probably not going to get to Billboard's Top Ten, and I won't be leaving my children millions of dollars; "So thanks for the smelly f'n book Dad!" :D

Why not, the labels are interesting, a couple of notes about whatever. You could do whatever you want with it. AND, if you store it in the coolidor it will carry that wonderful aroma for many years to come.
 
Well, I made mine a little bit more geeky and made a website out of it so I could store all of my notes online...Works pretty well, I even took it so far as to make it so I could keep track of the humidity and inventory of my coolidor.
 
I posted about a cigar dossier a few weeks ago. I was presented with several options. It's a pretty cool book with plenty of room for the bands and comments.

My wife got me a Cigar Dossier a while back. It is a nice way to keep track of the cigars you smoke, gives a little room for a review, and it has a place for glueing the bands, which I like as well.

I keep waiting for Rod to tell me, "Stop that!" :laugh: I've been trying to keep up with what I've smoked and whether I liked it or not, just not too much detail in it as yet. What I find most interesting is when I pick up a smoke that I've tried before, and find that I actually really, really like it, but didn't like it the first time. I attribute this to the age of the smokes as well as my palate changing over time. I really need to start keeping a more detailed journal. Maybe we can convince Rod to make us a spot in our profile called Cigar Diary.....hmmm.....
