Cigar porn; love it or hate it

Ok folks, there has been a lot of thread hijacking these days around the subject of posting pictures of cigars.
Some people on this board like it and some hate it.

Personally I have no problem with it. I don’t buy boxes, I buy 5’ers. It’s all I can afford.
But I love to look at other people’s cigar collections and it is really neat to see pictures of full boxes of cigars.
The fact that someone has a bigger and better cigar collection than I do is not an issue with me.
This is a cigar discussion forum, pictures of cigars and cigar collections are ok in my book.

But, I also know that there are some folks out there that dislike the “look at me” attitude of some of the cigar porn posts.
The “my cigar collection is better than your cigar collection” tenor of these posts rubs some people the wrong way.

Unfortunately this has stopped people like Moki from posting his pics and I got to say I am sorry about this.
Moki (and others) are collectors of some very rare cigars. These are cigars that most of us will never be able to own, let alone smoke.
It is a shame that he does not post pictures of these cigars on this board any more.

This is an attempt to “clear the air” on the subject of cigar porn and to let everyone know how you feel and why...

as a noob, i find it invaluable.

granted, the ISOM pictures won't help me, because i can't afford to buy boxes of them,

but when there are pictures and reviews of smokes that i can buy a stick or two of down at my local shop,

that's why i'm here!



edit: the reason i like the pictures is that i am not familiar with all of the lingo yet..so if somebody says "Yeah, i got a DFLNEGXXLWHJE 03 that i really loved" .....

well, let's just say it's easier when i see a picture & think to myself, "oh yeah, i saw that over at rocky's..next time i'm there i'll pick it up.."

I love looking at the cigar porn. Yes it makes my mouth water with envy, but it is really cool to see what other people have.

I love it. I don't get jealous. It gives me a good point of reference. It helps to build dreams. One of the main reasons I stick around here is to learn more about this hobby that has grabbed my full attention. There are so many beautiful cigars and soo little time; I appreciate people sharing thier passion with this same hobby. I say post more cigar porn.

If ppl think it is cluttering up the forum, maybe another subtopic area could be created for Cigar Porn. Then if ppl don't like it, they never half to go there.

Intent is a whole different topic, one which the legal system thrives on. It is difficult to prove, but seems to make a difference. It only makes a difference to me in the most extreme cases, like murder. I have better things to use my mental energy on than drama.

I happen to like looking at pictures of cigars I don't have. I don't see any problem with it at all. Someday I'll get off my lazy ass and take some pictures to post.

I think it’s great providing it’s kept in a recent purchases and/or collections thread and not a new thread every time someone gets a new box of cigars. Who cares how many cigars someone has? I’m happy if someone has a great collection; it’s the reason why I’ve been able to acquire some of my collection

I am a poor college student who has sold blood plasma to be able to buy 5 packs from JRs. I realize that the majority of people here have much nicer cigar collections than I do, and I enjoy looking at them. I really dont care about the fact that "insert name" can afford to spend roughly the same amount on cigars as I spend on rent, its not really a competitive thing for me. I can see how it may rub some people the wrong way when it seems like someone is bragging about how great their collections is and how much they spend.
I think that having a specific thread where people can post pics or links to pics of the collections would be a great idea.
Of course I also think having a newbie forum to answer typical newbie questions would be a good idea.
anyways, just my .02

I agree with bfree....

I think looking look at pics people post of cigars that they have or have recently accquired is fun.

No different that going to a car collector's websote and seeing pics of their cars.

Now as for the porn (or semi porn) pics posted at this and other site....I vote NO....plently of other site for that.

There should be a neutral option. It doesn't bother me but I don't necessarily get off on it either. It does help to see the picture of a cigar and what it is, and MMM pinned reference is very informative. I have visited it many times.
