Cigars and Beer

I'm more of a Bushmills kind of guy myself, but this weekend enjoyed a Young's Chocolate Stout Ale with a Partagas Spanish Rosado.....MMMMMMMMMMMM Good. They were spectacular together.

had a negra modelo with a jdn antano which really complimented each other, or maybe it was me, as i had'nt smoked in two weeks due to a flu.

I would drink almost any of the Sammy Smith's line with a decent cigar. I think you have to pair the beer with whatever you are smoking. ie. Sammy Smith's Brown ale with a LGC Serie R...the sweet bready flavors tend to compliment one another. Another favorite of mine is a Dutch Master's and Pabst Blue Ribbon :D ! Well, I actually like PBR.

I prefer a darker beer with a smoke. The lagers and light beers don't seem to match. Give me a Smithwick's or Guiness, Sam Adam's Creamy Dark.
 Just had to give a thumbs up to that. Even when I was still smoking very bad cigars it still went with a Sam Adam's.

Ah, Sam Adams, the only American beer that can pass German purity laws. Passed in 1510 by the way.

Doc.

Damn guys you have given me some new brews to try, anyone ever had any of the beers from Magic Hat brewery in Vermont? They make some nice stuff.

Yes, Magic Hat is great beer. I'm a Native Vermonter, were're more obnoxious that Texans

If you ever get the chance try a beer called " 'ol leg humper"

For as hilarious a name as it has, it's actually pretty good ;)

Beer goes with cigars like pea goes into a pod. My personal favorites:

Anchor Steam Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (only comes out once a year and is a different brew every year)
Firestone Double Barrel
Firestone Walker Reserve
Red Hook Blackhook Porter (haven't been able to find this in about 4 months otherwise this would be number 1 on my list)
Arrogant Bastard Double Bastard
BJ's Brewery Jeremiah Red (in a growler)

I am sure I am missing about 10 more, but that will get you started :)

At the local Micro Brewery there is a dark Lag. I enjoy or at the local pub New Castle on tap is nice with a PAM, OPUS, VSG as a choice of smoke. Now with the La Aurora out with some of the nice smoke's they offer cant wait to try it this also.

Another good VT beer is Longtrail Double Bag. It's 7.5% and packs a punch.

Also, on the topic of good VT beer, try the Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter or the Vermont Lager. I particularly enjoy the stovepipe with a Padron 1926 #6 Maduro.

I dont believe that is possible. I think the heat and humidity must have an effect on us down here.

As for beer, I am going to have to vote for Shiner. It gos great with everthing. Including breakfast.

I think cigars and beer are a fine mix, but smoking AFTER drinking six beers you can't expect too much. Obviously. Your palate is going to be dead, thats why crappy food like white castle tastes agreeable at that point.

Whities after drinking, I never would have thought that. :whistling:

Newcastle for me when smoking. I like the idea of Negro Modela, I'll have to give it a try.

While I am new to cigars, I have to say I have found the best thing to do is match strength and body. For example I smoked a 5 Vegas Gold the other day. A very mild and smooth cigar (while lacking in complexity), it paired well with an Oranjeboom. You can pick Oranjeboom up from Trader Joe's if you want to try it. It is a very crisp and light bodied beer with a bit of a citrus-like taste to it. With a RP Vintage 1990, I had a Guiness stout and thought it tasted great. But perhaps a Newcastle would have gone better. That pairing practically knocked me on my butt though, so can we say newbie. =)
