City wants to ban smoking

"“We have a tremendous opportunity here. We need to pass as stringent a law as we can, I would like to make it illegal,” said Councilman Dave Warden. “What if every city did this, image how many lives would be saved? If we can do one little thing here at this level it will matter.”"

Great logic. I think we should ban cars, sports, and fatty foods as well. Imagine how many lives would be saved?

People wonder why I hate on so many people? Because so many people are closed-minded and just plain dumb. They fail to see beyond their little scope of the world and it's mentally painful to be around or even hear about such ignoramouses. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to break the forum's rules but I can't help it that this stuff infuriates me to no end.

OUTSIDE?! REALLY OUTSIDE?!

why not stop wasting time and money and just ban all personal choice.

This is one law too many. I've changed my sig to include my favorite, all time quote that just about sums up what I think about smoking bans.

I keep telling my cigarette smoking wife that tobacco will be illegal some day.

Just you wait and see...

If only the could legislate intelligence...then maybe we'd be safer.

This is unbelievable, or at least it should be.

Sounds to me like a clear cut case of "I don't like it so you shouldn't do it". I am personally waiting for them to ban public farting.

I'm not a lawyer, nor do I have any legal experience, but somehow, this city banning smoking seems unconstitutional.

Councilman Warren Lieberman said he was concerned the city will pass a law it cannot enforce because residents will still smoke unless police are specifically called to a situation. Police cannot go out and enforce smoking rules, he said.

“It makes us hypocrites by saying you know you can break the law if no one is watching,” Lieberman said.

However, both Feierbach and Warden argued it is the same as jaywalking, having a barking dog or going 10 miles over the speed limit. All are illegal, but seldom enforced.
...so, Councilman Lieberman, Feierbach, and Warden admit that this is basically an unenforceable law.

Nice. Good use of their time and the taxpayers money.

B.B.S.

So I get it now! Atuck built that huge walk-in because he's stocking up now so that in a couple years when they ban tobacco across the nation, and we can't legally buy cigars anymore he'll be all set! Just think about the market for pre-prohibition cigars!

I saw this on the news last night just before going to bed :0 , unf'n-believable .... this kind of thinking is happening more and more here in CA. First, banning smoking in parks, Veteran Day parades and Foi Gras .... and now this?!

I'm really beginning to think this country is beyond hope. The morons who live here are turning it into the very state of existence that we used to fight against...

Now that I think about it, doesn't the city's population have to cast their voices and agree with the passing of this possible future law? Just because it is proposed doesn't mean that it will become a permanent fixture in that city's list of illegal activities, does it?

Honestly, I think if a city really wanted to curtail smoking, they would ban the sale of tobacco and all tobacco related products rather than smoking them.
