I'm the girlfriend of a cigar fan. I'm looking for an intresting gift for christmas, but since I know very little about cigars- it would be way too obvious for me to simply...you know...ask him what he thinks is an intresting cigar and/or cigar accompaniment. I've done the whole cigar in the stocking thing and this year I'm aiming a little higher. I love him dearly and want him to have a very merry, er, cigarry christmas. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Welcome. A few questions may help: do you know any of the specific brands he likes (does he save bands or can you take a peek in his humidor) or has he mentioned whether he prefers mild, medium or strong cigars? How much are you planning to spend?

I think he should marry you tomorrow.

And if he doesn't, I will. :D

I kid, I kid..

edit: as for a recommendation, X2 on the Opus X or Anejo but what about a davidoff, diamond crown maximus, Padron Anniversary maybe? Hope that helps.

Sneak a peek in his humidor (the thing he keeps his cigars in) and write down a few of the brands he has on hand. You can find this information on the cigar bands.

This will give us an idea of what he likes and I am sure you will get plenty of suggestions from there.

with some of those suggestions, i hope hes buying you some nice jewelry for xmas  but seriously, i think he should be thrilled to death that you even considered this

Wow, I wish I had a g/f like that. One time I got a present and it was just food. Clearly I was not happy. FOOD! SHE GAVE ME VARIANCE KINDS OF FOOD FOR MY BIRTHDAY. Obviously, the relationship did not last. FOOD! My mom gives me food everyday. Nothing would be better than food. Then I wouldn't have to feign appreciation.

Anyway - if you can look in the humidor like someone said and give us some brands I'm sure people can give something similar.

How much are you looking to spend?

As said, almost everyone would love to get a few Opus X. A box of Arturo Fuente's is usually a safe bet - and you can vary the price range on what you can afford. I'm partial to the Hemingway series. Other name brands that he may like are Davidoff, Dunhill, and Graycliff. These are upper-tier brands that I think most people will enjoy as a present although you often hear that they are overpriced. But since he's not paying, the price will be right.

Good luck and I'm sure some people here will be able to help you out more.

I need a pic with a cigar so you can be an official "Cigar Girl".

As others have said, see what he already has and report back. We'll be able to give you better ideas what to get. Also think about your budget as some of the higher end smokes might surprise you with their cost.

Arturo Fuente OpusX is a sure bet.

Padron Anniversary 1964 or 1926 in the Maduro flavor are also very good gifts. They actually make a 1926 gift pack if you can find it.

If your Cigar shop has Tatuaje any flavor of those are pretty good too :)

I must gloat for a moment. Two years ago for Christmas, my wife, my beautiful wife, bought me a humidor from a local b&m and while there, she asked his advice on a lighter. "Santa" brought me a promithesis (sp?) torch and cutter. What a great girl.

Your bf is a lucky man.

What's your budget? The problem with buying cigars as a gift is, where are you gonna keep them until christmas? It has to be somehwere with controlled humidity and temperatire, but where he won't find them. You should ask your local shop if they have space for customers, maybe even for rent, where you can leave the gift(s) for a month or two. The other, easier option is buying cigar accessories, like a lighter, humidor, beads, cutter, etc.

I'm married a girl like you, my best friend, about 20 years ago...

+2 to sneak a peek. Write down what you see on 2-3 cigar bands, or even better, sneak a picture of the whole thing. If he doesn't have a humidor, thats important news also. As for where to buy, I'd suggest your neighborhood tobacconist. There, you can buy at the last minute, or have him reserve your gift till you're ready to pack it. It is important that cigars not be allowed to dry out becaus it ruins them.

Bring us info from a few bands and we'll make some suggestions.

A great way to send a cigar gift is use an internet retailer when you figure out what you want to send. You can specify they date for delivery at most places, this way you don't have to worry about keeping them at optimum conditions or him finding them beforehand.

Now 2 God of Fire's would make a wonderful gift, and a friend. :D

Lauren, Is that You? :p

My local B&M offers free storage for the holidays and there always happy to help out especially if they know who your shopping for. Maybe he goes to a shop around town and you could ask them?

Print this thread out and wrap it up.

If my wife went through the trouble of finding a cigar site and posing a question such as you have, that'd be enough for me :)

Good Work!!
