Collars "In Style?"

So, as many here know, I am graduating from A&M in August, a full year ahead of schedule. Today I went and got a new Kenneth Cole suit (after a few years in college...I can't fit into my old one :laugh:), and started looking at shirts etc. I have an interview with Altadis USA to be a sales rep. for southern and central TX in a few weeks, so I'm prepping for the interview and the "business" world, so to speak.

My question to you all is what types of collars are now considered "In style?" I don't want to go to an interview and be outdated.... :laugh:
 
Personally, I would not wear a button-down collar with a suit and tie. I don't like tab collars.

I would wear a wide-spread collar ONLY if you are going to wear a tie with a big knot (Windsor).

Straight collars are always good and you can do a 1/2 Windsor knot for the tie.

Just be BigJake in the interview and you will be fine. Best of luck!

I agree with cpprhead59...button-downs are are on the relaxed end of the dress shirt spectrum. They're versatile but not what I'd wear to an interview. I'd save 'em for wear with a sport coat, with or without a tie.

With my round face, I pretty much stick to the standard point collar. You certainly won't be out of style for the business world. They've been around forever and most likely will be for a very long time to come. And speaking of ties to go around that collar...if you don't already have the hang of it, learn to knot your necktie in a couple of different ways. I usually tie mine with a four-in-hand knot but sometimes tie a half Windsor, depending on the collar style and how the necktie knots up. I haven't had to resort to a full Windsor in a very, very long time.

I think Oxfords are fine - it's practically the only thing I wear and nobody's ever accused me of being under-dressed. But you can't go wrong with a straight collar.

I have a few spread collars, but personally I think they're pretentious and look kinda silly even with the right type of tie. I mean, if you want to look like a Fleet Street publisher or something, be my guest and wear one.
 
I would visit Men's Warehouse for a suit of business casual. The moment a salesman shows up in a coat and tie, I raise shields.

What do your parents think of you graduating early? What the hell is wrong with you?

I got my Kenneth Cole Mini-pin at Mens Warehouse today, but was unsure as to the shirt. The suit is more-so for the Interview, the IPCPR, etc. As far as actually working the territory, if I got the job, I would wear more business casual attire. :)

The parents are happy, it's not often one graduates in 6 semesters with a degree containing 128 hours of credit (B.S. in Economics). I've been ready to get out of school since I was in the 6th grade, lol...my problem is I want to "grow-up" too fast, but then again, getting a one year jump on my classmates isn't necessarily a bad thing. :blush:

I'm graduating with an emphasis in Labor Economics, though it won't help me much if I stay in the cigar industry. :laugh:

Congrats bud, My parents would have loved for me to graduate a year early instead of a year late!!
 
I'm an engineer so I wear t-shirts and tennie runners to work. If I have to dress up, I'm screwed........ :laugh:
 
Good luck with the interview Jake. With all the types of cigars I've read about you either smoking or having in your collection I think you'll bring a lot of "hands on" experience to the interview! :laugh:
