Coming to Boston

I would enjoy meeting BOTL's from CP for dinner and cigars, Sunday, October 2nd. (I won't have a rental car.)

Cigar Masters is a block from my hotel and was recommended by my host as a nice cigar lounge. I'm a bit put off by there policy of a $10 "lighting fee" for any cigar not purchased in their store. (One would hope this fee includes free cedar spill's!)

Has any CP'er visited this store or the lounge? I'm open to your suggestions for a place to meet for dinner, etc. Also, would anyone be interested in doing a mini cigar pass at dinner?

Heh, a bit too early. I was planning to visit my friend around the 10th of october. He's in boston. But i'm not sure if i am even going to be there because i don't know if i can get a ride there.

Grrr sucks to not have a car, or an easy way to get there.

Cigar Masters if a very nice place....to visit.

The lighting fee is absurd, but its one of the way around the tobacco laws here in MA. For them to be exempt from the anti-smiking laws, 60% of their revenues must be tobacco related.

My biggest gripe with them is that you can walk in, order a drink and smoke cigarettes (that you bring) until your lungs are black with no additional fees. But to do the same with a cigar I have to fork over an extra $10 to smoke a cigar that I bring in. I emailed their managment about this and was pretty much blown off with a lame excuse.

There humidor is pretty well stocked with most of the major brands. Dont expect to find a lot "premiums". If they have they are way over priced.

Wine and drink list is not bad

They definitely cater to the business and tourists as opposed to cigar lovers.

I would suggest you check out the other the other shops in town as well. If walk a little further you can check out L.J. Peretti and the end of Boylston Street. One of the oldest smoke shops around. And while you wont find good looking cocktail waitress you will get a peek a real smoke shop with some great smokes.

If you find means of transporation, let me know I can direct you in some other places.

Also, the Sox are in town against the Yankees that weeked so it will be busy.

you mean the "Bull and Finch Pub", i would actually avoid it. it is a tourist trap, hard to get served, and nobody knows your name. Nice to get a pic in front of it, but weekends there are nuts. there are many more quaint places in and around Fanual Hall and Haymarket.

MacMS, I will PM you with more info, but I am not a huge fam of Cigar Masters. I prefer Stanzia in the North End and then there is another smoke bar at Fanuel Hall which I cannot remember their name, but I have heard it is a decent place.

LJ;s is a nice smoke shop carrying most every premium brand out there so it is worth a day trip if you are bored.

I know they are hosting the TAA and are supposed to carry God of fires, but not sur eif you are into those smokes or not.

I checked out L.J. Peretti's web site and I will definitely visit this shop. Thanks for the tip CigarAl. "Cheers" will probably not be on my todo list. I have limited time and visiting cigar shops will be my priority. Looks like a great opportunity to stroll and smoke between shops!

Kro- The lounge near Fanueil Hall is Churchill's. Is it the new location of the David Ehrlich shop.

Excellent, place. Much better the Cigar Masters. But Macms with limited and transportation he may not be able to get to it.

But combine Fanueil Hall and Churchill and its worth the trip. Great food and shops at Fanuiel Hall. And then you could walk to the North End to Stanzi. Have a smoke, a great meal and a quick stop to Mike's for a cannoli.......MMMMM..I thinking I need to get into the city more often....

Also, Boston is really a tiny city compared to other places. You can walk from Cigar masters to Fanuel Hall in abotu 20 to 30 minutes, or take a 5 dollar cab ride. So lets see who shows up. But I think I would be down for a visit.

in 84 or 85, my parents and 2 year old KB lived in MA, due to the fact that's where my dad's business took us. Years later (we only lived there a year) and Cheers became, and still is on of my favorite shows, I found out my dad really did drink there after work, always thought it was kinda cool

i know we here in boston suffer an inferiority complex to the big apple....but yes we do have cabs....and no, the are no better than those in nyc..........

Last time I was in Boston, we were walking through downtown... mid-morning or so. Practically no one on the road. Well, this cabbie slams into the mini-van parked in front of him. The mini-van is hit with such force that it jolts forward and hits the car parked in front of it - which happened to be a police car.

Never seen THAT happen in NYC.

I am from Boston and I'll let you know what I think about some of the places.

Stanzia is a great place to smoke and La Dolce Vita (sp?) above it is a great place to eat. Cigar Masters used to be a lot better when it was on Newbury st.

David Ehrlich's Churchills is also a great place to hang and smoke cigars.His shop is usually loaded with the good stuff and prices are reasonable.

LJ Paretti's sucks in my opinion, The place is a dump, the service sucks if they don't know you, and they hide the good stuff in back.

There is a place in Cambridge in Harvard Sq that is an old time shop( I forget the name but I believe it has News in the name) that has a nice selection and good prices. It is fun walking around Harvard Yard checking out the scenery and smoking a cigar.

For the best meal in the city, go to Chinatown and eat at Grand Chau Chau. Pick a 5 pound lobster out of the tank, tell them you want it done in a black bean sauce. Also get the clams in black bean and the roast duck. For a veggie, try the mustard greens or pea pod stems in oyster sauce.

The city is small enough so you can cab it to anywhere for short money.

You are some one right about Peretti. But all you have to is ask and they will tell you what they have. A couple of good people do work there.
