Are any of you part of any community service organization(s)?

I am a Lion and am pretty active in the club.

I was just wondering if anyone else did that sort of thing.

In the past I've done Habitat, Big Brothers, and Hospice. Right now I am doing AWARE (Always Wanted a Riding Experience). We teach kids with disabilities how to ride horses.

AWARE is a non-profit organization so if any of you Texans have any old horse stuff they will take it, this includes well mannered aged horses.

That is cool. I have never heard of that organization.

A lot of them go by different names and are independently run, but the principle is the same. It's great to see these kids learn to ride after the things that they have been through.

My father and grandfather are masons, but I turned down the offer to join. That's a community group right?

Not really... I volunteer at the local homeless shelter during the holidays.

And I used to be president of my kids' PTA for a couple of years. That got old quick - the politics were worse in that group than in any business I've ever been involved with.

I'm not sure. I've never been able to get a Mason (I have a couple of good friends that are fairly high in the organization in San Antonio and that region of the US) to tell me, a non-Mason, much about it. They always seem to dodge the question and I'm not willing to push them about it.

Good question, KB.

My dad used to ride around with the Hell's Angels and BPMs when I was a kid. When I was about 16 a prospector for the BPMs used to call me 'lil prospect. That is as close as I have come to joining any "community service group".

I do, however, work for a "not for profit" health care corporation......... :sign:

They won't tell me anything. It's pretty odd. I figure it's like a frat for old guys lol.
