This is the scenerio...

Moved about 3 weeks ago...ever since my PC has not worked at all (Del Dimension 2300) Old, I know...but I reformatted the HD last year and everything has been fine...until the move.

So opened her up and nothing was wrong...if I have everything plugged in the back (ie...external DVD drive, fire wire, DSL plug, all on PCI cards) it won't work. If I unplug it all it will work OK. So I decide to back all my files and completely re-load the OS. So I did it without a flaw...no problems. But when it's done...I can't change the screen resolution from 800 x 600 and 16 bit color. It just won't let me. So I went to Micorsoft to download SP2 and when that was completely loaded the resolution stayed at 800 x 600 but the color went to 4 bits!!! IT WON'T LET ME CHANGE IT!!!!

I need help...

PLEASE...

You have to load the graphic card drivers, It should be on a different Dell disk.

*edit* If you come in the chat room I'll help you out bro.

try re-installing your video drivers, that may be the culprit. from what you described, your video drivers may have been corrupted during install, so un-install then re-install them. hope this helps.

...what those guys said.

Go into "Control Panel" then "System"; select the "Hardware" tab and finally select "Device Manager". There will be a little yellow exclamation point in front of all the hardware the OS doesn't recognize. You can bet your video card (and sound card...??) will be there. Once the proper drivers are installed, the yellow "!" will go away.

Good luck - don't hesitate to PM if you get stuck.

Edited for schpelling......

We got it worked out in the chat room :)

It was one of those little mistakes we all make but it should be fixed now

Yes, you have not installed the video drivers..

And, for the mac guy.. even a mac will do the same thing without the video driver for your hardware  ..

Thank you all for your help...I did this same this lat year and for some reason I got so pissed that I forgot to re-install all of the rest of the drivers...I did it though...it's all good now.

Think I'll go spark up an LG Diez corona...
