Don't take for granted the time you have with loved ones and children.
This past week my wife and I went out to CO to get the rest of our belongings out of the house out there and moved back to MN. Our son had a slight cough and was a little tired when we left him with the grandparents. Nothing out of the ordinary, kids get colds and it happens all the time. On Friday my wife's mom calls and says Aidan's still sick and she's taking him to the doctor. A couple hours later she calls back and our son's case is really super bad. The Dr. sent him to the local ER, and the local ER did some chest xrays and tests and immediately transferred him to the Pediatric ICU at Mayo Clinic via ambulance. His left lung was completely filled with fluid and "collapsed" and he had to have surgery to have a chest tube placed where they drained over a litre of fluid (consider how much a litre is and how small a 4 year old's lung is). And all of this occured while we were 1300 miles away and helpless to do anything. My wife flew back immediately and I had to drive back. Aidan's doing better, he's more alert and eating real food finally. He's going to have the chest tube in for a couple more days, hopefully we can get out of here and get him home by the end of the week. I cannot begin to explain how hard it is to be that far from my child when he's got all this crap going on, and feeling completely helpless.
The wireless access is good here and I can check messages and all that fine, but otherwise I'm here, 4 hours from home. I don't think I have anything pending here on the board, but if I do please bear with me for a couple days.
Thanks.
