In the South crawfish season is upon us, and since Fat Tuesday is next week, I've been having a hankering for some mudbugs. Most people not from the gulf areas are pretty grossed out by crawfish, but I love em(poor man's lobster).

Last year here in Austin a local grocery chain was selling them, everytime I bought my bag of live crawfish up to the register, the checker would freak out. Crawfish is the ultimate outdoor food, great to have some beer and cigars after eating em. Anyways was wondering if anyone has plans for a crawfish boil this year?

It kinda sucks with the hurricane, the prices are double from last year. For anyone wondering what a crawfish is or what a crawfish boil is like, see below

Good Lord in heaven...I can tear up some crawfish!! I don't get to eat them very often because it's so hard to come by fresh crawfish here, but you get me in front of some crawfish and I'll be sucking the heads with the best of'em.

Oh good grief....my stomach is gurgling and begging for me to go find out where this is happening RIGHT NOW!
In LA last year, I ate a bunch o' crawfish, and could eat them exclusively. Oh man....now I'm so hungry...

Who's up for a New England Crawfish Boil/Herf?
You get the crawfish and the expertise in doing the boil, and I'll bring some nice after dinner cigars!

They have a texas holdem turnament sponsored by a B&M i do to comming up with all you can get crawfish and ribs. Cant wait!

In the middle 60's while visiting my Aunt & Uncle near Wilkes-Barre, PA. I ran across a pool formed by one of the streams. In it was my first sighting of crawdads. I never knew they could live that far north but they certainly didn't get as big as the southern ones nor did this little colony get large enough to have a boil with.

I haven't had a good batch since I lived in Memphis 25 years ago.

Love them but only time I can find them is at Mil. fest in Wi. So we just have shrimp boils here in the midwest.

If you've never had them, you're missing out. They're awesome!! I don't get them too often unfortunately, but when I do I make it worth my while.

i have had many a crawfish...ummmummm good. but a lobster from off my coast line is even better! we have clam bakes around here, lobster, steamer clams, potatoes, corn on the cob and plenty of brew! can't wait for the summer!

My brother (a prof. chef) did his intership in New Orleans after graduating from the CIA in NY. He used to ship up live crawdads every year so we could have a boil.

Haven't had on in years but love the little buggers!

Is there a source online to buy 'em live?

Thanks,
~M

Several times every summer I do a clam bake. There's a seafood market near me which sells fresh manila clams. I buy about 15 lbs worth and steam 'em up in pure beer (Pacifico). Throw some fresh garlic, parsley and onions in there for extra flavor. Really good!

I've always wanted to eat crawfish, but don't know how to eat them. What part actually contains the eatable meat?

Going with a bunch of guys next week during our lunch break for a little cajun lunch. We were told that they were going to have crawfish. I have never had them, but have always wanted to try them. So, how do you go about eating them anyway? just pull off the head and suck everything else out?

Rod,
The tail is what you eat.
You rip the tail off and eat the meat in there. If you wanna go hardcore you suck the juice from the head of the 'dad.
