If you want to carry a soft flame lighter, i.e. a bic just put it in you pocket when you walk through the metal detector, it will not set it off, either the big bics of the small bics, but if oyu put them in your carry on they will take them... If you have to have a torch, buy the zippo butane insert and a zippo otter box for your checked luggage, they will never know the difference.... That how I do it... and I should know
