Ring Gauge- 33
Length- 6.5 in.

Filler- Dominican
Binder- Dominican
Wrapper- Connecticut

This is my first review so please don't be to rough :whistling: . Leave any and all suggestions to make future reviews better. :D

Initial light- Very surprising for me. Tasted good even during the light, I normally find most cigars to be at least a little bitter, none of that at all. Very easy to light after a light toasting and started with a very even burn.

Burn- Over all extremely good burn. Early on it started burning too fast on one side but it evened out on its own. I was surprised that it burned as well as it did because of how it was shaped. Ash was sold white very well built.

Construction Very well constructed. This was the second of the three cigars in this culebra that I have smoked. The first was 21 months ago, has held up extremely well even with its awkward shape.

Taste- Very creamy, It also had strong hints of cedar (I kept it in the coffin it arrived in) Wonderful woody flavor.

Draw- Tight draw, not quite plugged but I did have to roll it around a little once it had warmed up. I guess the shape and braiding of a culebra is going to cause a tight draw.

Smoke- When I smoke I don't smoke because it tastes good or to look older and more mature (I'm 19 and many people my age light up a cigar solely for this reason) I smoke for the relaxing experience a good cigar brings. To me a big part of this experience is the smoke. I like to see thick billowing clouds of smoke and I got it with this cigar. A very nice thick smoke. Definitely helped with the relaxation.

I did find toward the end there was a build up of tar. I had to stop with about 2 inches left, it had very suddenly become very bitter. I tried to let it burn past the tar build up, but it wasn't happening. I had to put it out.

Outside of that it was a wonderful smoke, it is a pity Davidoff won't be making anymore. As far as value goes, it's not the best. $30 for the full culebra so $10 bucks a stick. I will definitely buy 1 or 2 more of these before they disappear and leave them in the back of my humidor to age and wait for a special occasion where I could split it with friends.
 
Nice review...I like Davidoff's, I just dont smoke that many of them due to the price.
 
Well done. Sorry to hear about the tar. Did you do any purging at each ash drop?

No, I didn't purge. I tied when I noticed the tar build up but it was to late. I smoke mostly robusto sized cigars and didn't think that with a smaller cigar I would really need to. Thinking about it, it woulld be more beneficial to purge at the ash drops for the smaller ring gauge cigars than the thicker. The tar would build up faster in the smaller space provided.

Oh well, I am still learning. I have only been smoking for about two years now and learn new things with almost every cigar. When I smoke the final third I'll know better. I think I'll save it for another 6 months or a special event, whichever comes first.

Nice review. I am a fan of Davidoffs myself. Pricey but if you are in a celabratory mood--worth it. :thumbs: As with smaller ring cigar smoking slow will help lessen the tar buildup and occassional purging as Wilkey posted.

I loves me 'dem Davidoff's. Mainly the Millenium but, more recently a few others.

We smoked Short Perfecto's this past Sunday....very nice indeed.
 
It is usually only bitter during the initial light. Do you think lowering the humidity will help with that? I did just pick up some 65% beads and wil be setting those up shortly.
 
Thanks for the review. I have one of these stashed away still in the coffin. Ony had it about six months or so. I'm waiting for a special occassion to break it out with a couple friends.
 
Where can you find these? I've been wanting to try a culebra for some time now and have never been able to find them. Any help would be appreciated.

Davidoff has discontinued them so I would try to find them soon if I were you. They aren't cheap, $30 bucks a pop but just remember that there are three cigars there. Stay away from the Drew Estates Medusa. I tried one of the three cigars and threw the rest of it away.
 
Thanks...but that still doesn't give me a lead on where to find them. As I stated before, I've been trying to find them for awhile now with no success, so telling me they've been discontinued ain't pointing me in any direction.

I know that it doesn't tell you were to go, I was just letting you know that they are discontinued. The one I had I bought almost 2 years ago from the Davidoff website. If I could point you in the right direction I would. When I can afford it, I'll be looking to purchase a couple. When I find a place I'll be shure to let you know.

Dice, are you anywhere around central Jersey? Cigars Plus in Brick and Red Bank still have a bunch of Special <<C>>s left.
 
All of the recent hype with the Special C has again peaked my interest in trying one. Krautle87 being that you are our in house Davidoff specialist are they "officially" discontinued? How much should I expect to pay for one?

Too bad you got such bad tar build-up...you'd expect better from a Davidoff :(

It wasn't too bad. Part of it was "user error" I should of been purging at the ash drops and smoking a little slower may have helped. At the same time I probably would of been suprised is it didn't turn bitter in the end because of it's shape, the turns can not be good for the flow of smoke. In the end I was very happy with it.

I picked mine up in Atlantic City. Stayed at the Trop, and before I went to play I stopped in the cigar shop there. That was the only cigar they had out that I had never seen before. So I said if I won, I'd go back and pick it up.

Of course, once I get to the register with it in hand, the guy takes me in the back to show me all the other great tuff they don't keep out in the "regular" case. I also paid more for it than normal, because I was in the casino.
