"The senator pledged saturday that as president he would end a decades old trade embargo with Cuba and lift travel restrictions to the communist island. The Connrticut senator also said he would open an embassy in Havana and shut down the 17 year old TV Marti, a U.S. goverment run station that broadcasts to Cuba." Chicago Suntimes.
This really sounds interesting, but it would be a lot more exiting if Dodd had a snowball's chance in hell to even win the nomination to the Democratic Party. But it's good that he at least is bringing up the subject for debate. This is not meant to be a political debate, just stating facts.

IMO, ending the embargo is not an issue to campaign with for the job of President of the US. Its such a minor issue involving few people. I personally could care less what someones stance on the embargo is. It will eventually be lifted regardless.... maybe even in our life time. ;)

I guess Dodd won't be vacationing or campaigning in Miami any time soon.

Dodd can't end the embargo all by himself and it is a moot point since there's no way he'll wind up as the Democratic nominee for President.

He used to be my Congressman, first elected as a "Watergate baby" in 1974. He then stepped up to the US Senate in 1980 which wasn't much of a contest. He's not a "bad" guy but he hasn't really distinguished himself much for his 26+ years in the US Senate. Winning as a Democrat for Federal office in Connecticut isn't exactly all that hard since Connecticut is probably one of the most liberal states in the country, not a whole lot different from Cook County. :D

CC, you are just worried that the embargo will be lifted within our 5 year bet which means that you will have to send me 5 of your best ;)
I think we have 4 years to go, no pressure yet. Never say never! :whistling:
