Diary of a Developing Cigar Lover

So I wanted to post this here for two reasons: One, because I think you'll get a kick out of it. Two, because it helps reassure me that I'm actually developing into a true BOTL!

A little recap and background information....I have smoked cigars in the past, but never knew what they were. I was the guy (yes, THAT guy) who thought all cigars were probably the same. I drink beer like water and I don't smoke cigarettes, so I'm classified as a non-smoker.

So like most new guys, wanting to develop an appreciation (and habit) of cigar smoking, I asked a cousin of mine about what cigar would be good to start with. I wanted something a little sweet, and something that wouldn't be strong. So he said, "Well, why don't you try an ACID."

I thought, "ACID? They put that shit in cigars?"

"No, no....it's a brand. Give it a shot, and I think you'll like it."

Remember.....I am a non-smoker who knows nothing about cigars, except the occasional one I'd buy once a year or so.

So I end up getting the ACID sampler pack, and try a few out. And I LOVED them! I couldn't understand why everyone was dogging the ACID line, especially the fragrant smells. I would sit there and just smell an unlit ACID for minutes at a time, soaking it all in. This was good stuff! Why on earth did people throw these things away?!?!

Now, knowing that I couldn't be a TRUE cigar lover without trying all the "other" stuff out there, I began to purchase some other brands based on reviews on this board. They arrived yesterday, and they were:

2 - Don Pepin Garcia Blue Generoso (6” x 50)
2 - Padilla Edicion Especial Achilles (6” x 50)
2 - 601 Serie Connecticut Robusto (5” x 50)
2 - 601 Serie Habano Robusto (5” x 50)
2 - CI Legends Series Pepin Garcia (5.75” x 54)
2 - H. Upmann Corona
2 - Montecristo No. 4
2 - Romeo y Julieta 1875 Cedro Deluxe No. 2
2 - Romeo y Julieta Reserve Maduro No. 4
1 - Montecristo Serie V No. 4
1 - TTT Trinidad Corona

They came in a few sealed Ziplock baggies, which I immediately transferred into my humidor (without the ACIDS in there, of course). The aroma just from these Ziplock baggies was AMAZING. Yeah, you know that feeling....when your mouth actually WATERS because your salivary glands are shouting, "YEEEEHAW Daddy! Fire one up!"

After smelling the baggie for a while like a teenager sniffing his girlfriend's panties, I picked up my ACID's (which were now in their own Ziplock bag) and took a big sniff. WHOAAAAA NELLIE! I thought I was going to puke! I was suddenly thrown into a world of confusion.....like Superman when he lost all his powers. Did this really smell that bad?

I took another whiff of the ACID bag. SNIFFFFFFF............Holy mackerel, it was bad. Almost like an instant headache. I went back to my premium baggie and took a whiff....the smell was great and my mouth watered again!

KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAVEN'T SMOKED ANYTHING BUT THE ACID'S YET! That means that even without smoking my new sticks, the SMELL ALONE was enough to make my ACID's do a swan dive on my rating scale! I felt as if I finally got it!!" I was waiting for Jennifer Love Hewitt to great me and tell me it was OK to walk into the light or something.

So today, I'm firing up the good stuff......and I now understand why "most" people only consider ACIDS for an occasional smoke, for beginners only, or simply for a method of sadomasochistic torture.

One step forward in the right direction, gents!

Thank you for that

Was about to try some of the ACIDS myself, had a fellow new smoker tell me he thought they were all right. Saved me time and money....

I think you are on the same boat as a lot of people were. Acid cigars are what got me in the cigar world as well. But... that is just about all I can give them credit for. Since then I have definitely learned my lesson.
