Direct Tv or Dish Network?

Speaking of Direct Tv...anyone else experience frequent "lost singals" due to rain? Anyoen know of a solution to reduce this problem?

-P-
yes i do, allot of time what happens is rain actually collects in the dish its self, in one of the menu's of ur receiver box, u can have it search for new sats to connect to and the straight of that connection. Its hard to tell were in the menu as to the fact that dtv uses different boxes.

as for me i like direct tv over dishnetwork anyday plus soon ur friends will be able to take care of the card issue sence people are getting the new vergin cards out.

You can get up to a 36" dish made for fringe areas. It will help with rain/snow fade but isn't absolute. If you do go bigger you have to start worrying about wind loading and strengthen your mount point.

Just to add my 2 cents... I have no experience with Dish, but have had DirecTV for a loooong time.

Directv is pretty amazing, and at least where I live, you can get all the hardware for free - even a tivo/dvr box. Circuit city had a deal where you buy everything up front and then they (dtv) send you back the cost in rebates, and to top it off, Circuit city will send you a $75 gift card AFTER you activate and subscribe.

Not a bad deal.

All the Tivo's are full hackable now, even the series 2's, although the series 1's are MUCH easier to hack (in my opinion). By hack I mean add larger hard drives to expand recording time, etc. The Series 2 have more features, but honestly, I don't think any of them are things real people use on a daily basis - But I could be wrong since I am a little bias- as I have Series 1 DirecTivo's. ;)

The biggest difference between Dish and DTV (as I understand it) is DTV offers Sports and Dish doesn't. Simple as that.

So if NFL ticket is something you're interested in (or any of the sporting packages MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, ETC) then Dtv is the way to go, its pretty much the ONLY option.

As for hacking the cards and what not--- Personally I have no experience with this ;) but DTV is dead in the water (for now), and Dish is fully hackable (again- as I understand it)

Thanks for the plug for my company, Toaster. By the way, as of today, if you sign up for the NFL Sunday Ticket, you get four months free of the Premier programming package.

Toaster,

I'll contribute to your Sunday ticket if you ditch that camera phone signature photo. That is BRUTAL! That swatch is definitely lacking. All she's missing is the wide load sign and the bungee cords.

As for the topic, I'm a Dish guy. I've got 2 dishes, 8 boxes, and 4 slaves (12 TVs hooked up). I've been with them since 4/99. Never had an outage, and never been happier. Now.........if they would hurry up with their internet service..........

Just where does one keep 12 TVs? I only have 10 rooms in my house, 11 counting the garage. I thought the 4 I have was overkill, 106", 36", 19", & 11".

I've got a pretty big place (5000 sq ft on 3 acres).

Tho plans show 5 BRs, a master suite, 3BAs, with a Kitchen, Formal Dining, Formal Living, a den, and two garages. Now one of the bedrooms is converted into a laundry room, another is my office/smoking room, one of the garages is a REC room and the other is two bedrooms and a small hall for our two oldest sons. So that's 15 rooms not counting the 2 walk in closets, the 2 hall ways, or the mud room attached to the down stairs bath.

Here's the break down:

60" Big screen in the DEN
60" Big screen in the REC
27" in the Master BR
35" in the Master suite
20" in the Master Bath - wall mounted (slave from the Master BR)
13" in the kids Bath - wall mounted (slave from the Master Suite)
13" in the Laundry - wall mounted (slave from the Master Suite)
20" in Charlie's room - (slave from my office)
20" in Seth's room - (slave from my office)
35" in my office
13" in the Kitchen - wall mounted (slave from the Den)
20" in Sam's room
20" in Chad's room
and a box and seperate dish for the motorhome.

Wow.......that's 13 TVs running, 7 boxes, 6 slaves, and one in the motorhome. My bad.

HEY THATS MY WIFE! :p

Yes, it does blow. When I first got the Ticket it cost $120. It's gone up almost every year since. I'm trying to decided just excactly how much it's worth to me to watch my beloved BILLS. For me it's essentially a $12.50 PPV each week but is actually even a bit more then that because even in Utah I get a few games at least that are national. Another price hike and I may be looking at $20/game :0 That's a bit steep don't ya think?

Still better than going to a bar, or worse, a casino, here in Vegas. $20 is cheap. Directv still has exclusive rights for the next couple of years.

Football season here in the Dallas area is going to be great, This year the local's have a new place to go, the Gaylord Texan... Its a HUGE themed (texas) resort with a sportsbar that is simply jaw dropping! :) The cigar room is a bit weak, but will be good for Monday night games (only has 2 tv's, both plasma's) but the main area (no cigars/smoking allowed) where the food is serve and such has HUGE projection screens like the sports books in Vegas.

It will be THE place to be this football season :)

The CPS number is locked out of our phone!!

And the TV in their bathroom does wonders for bath time (Charlie and Seth are 8 & 4). They actually like to take baths now (it is a TV/VCR combo and Toy Story, Nemo, Antz, and Terminator 3 are about worn out) just real long ones.
