Seems European research shows obese patients have half the risk of dying as compared to normal weight patients. "Once a heart attack has occured and been optimally treated obese patients switch to a more favorable prognosis as opposed to normal people". Only problem is that obesity will bring on a heart attack, which isn't good. Just seems odd, but facts are facts. :whistling:

The catch, is surviving your first MI. Then and only then will you be referred to a dietitian and Physical therapy. Seems to me that it would make more sense to do it the other way around.

Doc.

Or they could just eat less...

So you're saying they have half the risk of dying? Does that mean they have twice the chance of being immortal? :whistling:

Or they could just eat less...

Well, I had gastric bypass, lost 100lbs in 4 months and pushed myself so hard exercising I gave myself 8 hernias! ??? I only lost 20 more pounds because of all the surgeries I've had since and I'm still fluffy but I only eat about 1 1/2 cups of food at a time soooo eating less doesn't always solve the problem once your weigh gets out of control. :( BTW, if I had to do it all over again, I'd still get the Gastric Bypass, I'd just take things slower next time (I'm sure my husband is reading this at work and laughing hysterically at that remark :p )
And as far as doctors and medicine are concerned, in my opinion (after what I've been through), I strongly feel medicine is art not science.

No doubt theres other physical ailments that can lead to this but id say the majority of people whom have weight issues have the ability to solve them.
