Does anyone here use their cigar store locker ?

I have more boxes and cabinets than I could (or care to) store at home. I've monitored the locker and the temp is always 67 F and the Humidity is around 68% to 70%. I like that I don't have to worry about it. Considering my shop has at least $500,000 in inventory, I know they'll be pickier than I could be. Also
considering the fact that I don't freeze any of my cigars, 67 F should be low enough to avoid any problems. Let me know if this sounds good or if I'm way off.

Sounds like a great idea. I wish I had an option like that around me. Is that Arnold Schwartzenegger in your avatar?

I don't have that option here and I've always wondered what that costs a year and how much room do you get?

Sounds like a good idea. I was offered a locker at one of my stores, but I turned them down, dont have many cigars so no point.

I dunno, for $25 a month, after a few months you could build a pretty decent refrigerated humidor yourself that would probably store more than 300 sticks. I would, however, use it to stash purchases from the wife over and above what i'm "allowed" to spend every month. ??? You allowed to keep porn in there too?

This was my first thought as well. My wife doesn't mind the porn at all though :D

For $25 you can purchase a decent size Coolidoor. For another $25, you can purchase Viper's beads to control the RH in the coolidoor. Why would you do this
instead of storing at your local store...

1.Most stores over humidify their sticks.

2.I personally prefer to store at RH 65%, my sticks are
consistently at RH 64/65% and I am in control of that RH.

3.I love to look at my stash. After all, this is an expensive
hobby, right? Think about your other expensive passions, do
you store them, I doubt it!

4.When you are ready to smoke one, you look at your stash,
sometimes for 5 minutes or more before deciding on which stick
to smoke. (well, I do that). If I have to look at a list in
my locker, my taste and mood would change by the time I got
the cigar in my hand.

I agree w/ you, I put my own hydrometer in there, the humidity in the locker is around 65%, much lower than in the shelves. I know a few guys that have over 1500 cigars, mostly cubans. They'll use lockers in different stores for aging purposes, otherwise you would smoke up your stuff before it aged. I keep probably 1 or 2 of each of my sticks at home so anytime I want to smoke any brand I can it's no problem. As far as hiding from the wife, well that's a huge reason :p   , she has no idea what I have.

But the main way I justifiedit to myself, There's no way I can keep my temp @ 67F. My electricity bill is $300 or more now. $25 really isn't that much. I'm dropping $750-$900 on some cigar orders, the $25 is very minimal.

In your position, I'd undoubtedly go with a coolidor - one of those big marine ones. You can always put a block of blue ice on the top if it gets too hot - and if you're really anal about temperature, you can get a wine coolidor (there are a few threads on it).

As for the wife, meh.

I don't. Most around here keep their humidity too friggin' high.

i'd be more worried about a store shutting it's doors unexpectedly, it could take a long time to get what is yours.

That would be my concern, as well.

The shop here (notice I said THE shop) closed it's doors on a Wednesday after having a nice event on Tuesday night. Nobody was told it was closing, nobody knew it was closing ahead of time.

From what I heard, the few that had lockers lost all their smokes. By the time the court gave them permission to go in and get it, the power had been off for over 2 months in the hottest part of the summer here. Whatever wasn't dried out was beetle ridden and whatever wasn't beetle ridden was moldy. A sad sight indeed.

I understand what you're saying, but they've been in business since 1978. Also a friend of mine there has some Cubans he's been storing for over 4 years and they were simply perfect. I just don't know a way to keep my cigars @ 67F and 65%, which is what was measured in the locker itself. i keep my N/C in the front and the Cubans in the back where the humidity is a tad lower. The guy owns 6 cigar stores in all. I talk to him a few times a week and he is very series about cigars, along with him I talk to guys who spend over $300 a week on cigars. I wouldn't do it if I didn't trust their opinions.

I don't. Most around here keep their humidity too friggin' high.

Then I wouldn't buy a single cigar from that store.

I keep them there. Tghey keep everything at 70 degrees 67 RH and they are insured if anything goes wrong. They also have a lay down service for 300/year where they move your cigars weekly and give you 1500 sticks worth of space.
