So the yellow flame is what hits the top of the inside of the stove when I turn it up. Is that bad? I always thought that the blue flame was a hotter temp.
 
If your unit is vented then it is not unsafe. Vent-free units are the only time that it is unsafe. It still isn't normal so I would look into getting the burner cleaned out and see if that helps.
