Dominican vs. Nicaraguan

I've always been a big fan of Dominican cigars, but now I'm finding some really good Nicaraguan's! I believe most of the Pepin's are rolled using Nicaraguan tobacco, and they taste great. Time to experiment with other Nicaraguan brands. :)
 
Absolutely! I've always preferred Nicaragua far more than Dominican, but I've been doing this a lot less than most.

That's an interesting point. Is it coincidence that one would prefer Nic>Dom or is it the blending done by the companies?

Here's my rating of the majors:

There are likely certain qualities that are common among all or most of the tobaccos of a certain country/region, and if a person prefers those qualities that are typical of Nicaraguan cigars over those typical of Dominican, then that person will probably like more Nicaraguan cigars. Naturally, there will be variations and exceptions. My favorite smokes right now are Padrons, some Pepins (esp. Black and Miami 8/11, but I haven't tried even close to all of his lines), VSGs, and AF sungrowns. I would not be able to pick a favorite from among these, as I like them all very much.

How about Honduran cigars? I've never had a Honduran that I like as much as the above makes. Sure, there are some damn decent cigars coming out of Honduras, but I haven't found any that can measure up those above.
 
Ah to puro or not to puro? How many are really puros out there since even Padron says his leaf is from Cuban seed and I'm sure Fuente is the same. Plus as many are aware the hybrid tobaccos that are out there especially Ct leaf that is grown in the DR and Nicaragua. It's like a lot of us mixed at best and that was makes it best!
 
The flavor of tobacco, just like a tomato, comes from the soil. I prefer the taste of Nic. dirt to DR dirt. Forbidden dirt however, is the best dirt of all.

X2!! Forbidden dirt is the best!! :thumbs: I do enjoy smokin Nicaragua tabacco too, it just depends!
 
I love cigars from both points of origin. I consider the Padron line to be pretty much unbeatable in terms of construction quality and consistency. On the other hand I put the Fuente family products right up there as well in terms of variety and flavor complexity. Granted, those are just two brands among many but they serve to illustrate my point that great products come from both regions.
 
I personally enjoy the domincan cigars like the opus's, fuentes, vsg's etc, but on the other hand i also enjoy padron, dpg, san cristobal, etc. So for me it does not come down to the country of origin, but the blend, and the brand/line. I have favorites on both sides of the sea, no clue about the forbidden yet, havent had the pleasure of trying those yet.
