Drama, anyone?

I too lusted after the Padron Millinium. I held it, looked at it, put it in its bag, and sent it on. No cigar in the world is worth screwing a brother for. All I got in this world is my word and my balls. I ain't breaking any one of them.

Exactly.... :D

As far as being overly generous to a newbe in a trade or anyone for that matter and being fair in a pass are two different situations.

I'd give my shirt off my back to a friend....what happens in private stays that way. A pass is not the place to let someone you like slide with a 'special" cigar. That effects everyone in the pass and the board. A host bag is good if it's an invitation only pass. But, having a host bag in an open pass might make people feel obligated to put something in.

One of the first newbe trades I had was with Ricmac. I'll never forget it. I sent the Padron King what he wanted (Padrons of course)and in return I received an overly generous bunch of sticks to over-fill my small humi. Cigars I've never heard of or seen. I was like a kid in the candy store.
Researching each one of them, looking up reviews before I smoked them to try and taste what others found in them. Taking notes on each of the flavors. It's still hard for me to find some flavors people describe. All this made the experience worth while. This first experience showed me the love within the brotherhood.

There have been several occasions where this sort of thing has happened in a pass and I've been frustrated, upset, pissed off to the point I wanted to leave because I was tired of the BS. Each time the bad guys are weeded out and are gone. I still stick around....

Overall, the people here on this board are great. If you need help there's someone to help you. All you have to do is ask.

I'm not a Fog by a long shot...and have unknowingly made my mistakes in the past as well. We all learn from it. Life goes on. Passes will go on.

Yes, unfortunatly it might make it harder for a new guy to get into passes in the future, but dues have to be paid. It does NOT happen in a few months.

I myself enjoy seeing rare cigars pass through my fingers in a pass, even if I cannot pull it out. The fact that I've been trusted enough to participate means alot to me. It's all a learning experience. It's like anything else in life, you earn trust and respect.

Passes, trades, bombs, (this board) are more than cigars, it's building relationships, friendships...something that is hard to come by these days. We're all here because we share something in common, a leaf that is grown from the earth, aged, rolled, (aged some more), to bring us pleasure. Let's try and keep it that way.

ok, I'm getting off the soap box.....thanks for listening....

A lot of good comments here that everyone can learn from.

I've seen several people reference their inability to determine the value of certain cigars. The best advice is to do your research and if still in doubt contact the host and discuss. There's no need to ask publicly on the thread. A private message is much more appropriate and cuts down on others inserting their opinions. There is one person driving the ship..... talk to the captain.

I read a post on that thread that says there's no reason to continue to say "I told you so" and that the "only person to blame is the theif". I disagree with both of those statements. I'm not going to explain.... I'm sure most can figure it out for themselves.

I used to be completely against the idea of of invitation only passes.

The more I evaluate the consequences, the better a policy it probably is.

I was always worried that it would be more (extremely) difficult for noobs to get into passes. It might also reduce new interest in our site....as having to be around for more than a day to gain entrance into a pass might be undesirable to many.

In light of the past year's difficulties this might be EXACTLY what CP needs.

In general, I believe the best way to learn is by doing. However, I think when BOTLs are sending $100s of their prized smokes, requiring guys to have been around long enough to follow a couple passes from start to finish is perfectly reasonable. Readig archives is a good start, but until you can witness the pace of a pass in real-time the experience is incomplete.

Because we don't have anyway to be publically updated on a noob's transactions and cred building, I assume the established members will have to nominate noobs to get an invitation.

I personally don't mind this vouching system, but we need to be (more) realistic about it. Too often guys have one successful 5-stick blinder and the're "in" and sudduenly a "classy BOTL." Before you vouch for someone to be in a pass, try to think of it like this:
Would you meet in a parking lot and hand him $500 cash, then agree to meet again a week later for him to give it back to you.

Cheers,
Dixie

It's not even about the pass now, when you insult folks who've been here for many years. Pretty f'ed up in my opinion. :angry2:
