I am a newbie here and it was brought to my attention that there might be several people here who have ties to Drum and Bugle Corps. I would love to have an introduction to anyone who has either been a fan, marched or instructed with this fine activity.

I myself am a drummer. I started on cymbals and quickly aspired to snare where I've been every since. I started with the Casper Troopers back in 1985 and continued with them until 1990. I then marched with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 1991-92. After that I spent the next 4 years in the USAF and then instructed with the Troopers in 1996. I then took quite a hiatus from drum corps and only visited a couple of shows until 2003. I was then in St. Paul and decided to throw my sticks back into the bag and try out for the Minnesota Brass Senior Corps. I made then line (barely) and we went on to win the National Championships in drums that year. I still volunteer with Minnesota Brass when I can and have many fine friends with the organization.

With the new season just about to get under way, I'd be happy to keep the members here informed as to just about anything that is going on in the Drum Corps world these days if there is some interest in it.

My nephew, and now my niece are members of a corps in Houston. Nephew is now studying music at Rice U. I've enjoyed seeing them perform. Welcome to CP.

We used to have a corps here in Hutchinson KS the Sky Ryders. Sky Ryders tied first place in Houston during the American Legion contest in 1979 with the Long Island Kingsman, and were consistently highly rated until they moved to Texas in 1990. They dissolved in 1993.

My wife's sister's in-laws were big supporters, chaperons, and transporters for years.

I saw a few performances way back when, it was a cool site to behold. I remember them doing Carry On by Kansas, very powerful, and the precision of movement was impressive.

Way back when ..... my High School marching band was very Corp like. Many of our personel were Corp people and quite a few band members were also involved with Corps. we had a lot of ties to SCV, Concord Blue Devils and even the Troopers, our uniforms were patterned after the Troopers and our band name was the Independence High School 76th Cavalry Band.

Long story short, we dominated the West Coast circuit and even achieved the National Title in our 5th year of existance.

If you've been involved with Corps for a while I'm sure we know many of the same people, especially SCV folks. A few of the guys that I marched with, including our instructor, are still very much involved with Drum Corps to this day. A few are DCI judges, instructors and support staff, SCV's current Directory, Jeff Pearson, was one of the guys I marched with in High School. If you check out this months DCI magazine you'll see an article about one of our old HS MB staff members, Allan Kristenson.

My wife, who also marched with me, and I try to attend at least one show in our area yearly, it turns into a huge family reunion.
