how many of you keep your humidor say at 70% rh. then pull out the cigars you want to smoke and dry box them for a day or two versus the people that try to keep there humidor at say 64% and smoke them right away, any pro's or con's to either way?
thanks
Mark

I think the pros/cons are pretty obvious... One way, you can smoke your cigar right away, the other, you can't, but it is more moist, which some prefer. There are people here who do both, I believe it is preference, and there are probably many threads already talking about this same topic. You can probably find a lot of information by searching for RH% and such.

Right on. This subject has been discussed quite a bit. Aside from the obvious issue of "instant gratification," storage humidity, for the most part, comes down to personal preference.

Just a couple links I found, the first one is basically the same question you have, but asked back in 2007.

Personally, I don't dry box my sticks... I smoke em' out of my humidor, because that's what it's for! Many times I will grab a stick I feel like smoking AT THE TIME I feel like smoking. I won't want the same stick two days from now.

Also, out here in dry weather, I experimented and found that my cigars burned way too hot and tasteless when I stored at 62%. When I store them at 70% they smoked fine. Sometimes it's pursuant to your climate...

Fwiw, :whistling:

Amen to that statement. I've tied a few times lowering my RH to 65% and my cigars always crack and burn hot.

That's been my practice as well. I rarely have more than one or two of the same cigar in my humidor so I choose my particular smoke as the mood strikes. As for humididy, I've been keeping my desk top at around 68% and that seems to do the trick for me, personally.

All I have to do is take a stick out of the humi and it is dryboxed in about 30 minutes, actually scratch that...take the stick out of the humi and it is dried out in 30 minutes. ;)
