DVD Burning

Alrighty....so I went to Best Buy and picked up a spindle of 25 (NOT 50!) of Verbatim Movie -R media. It didn't say "Movie Reel", but the DVDs did look like movie reels. Anyway, $22 bucks with tax...wasn't too impressed with that but WTF...worth a shot.

Ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter to an ISO file.
Used DVD Shrink to compress the ISO, then burned the DVD.

Burned all the way and played great!

Thanks to all you guys for all the help and advice!

Awesome.

They are a little more pricey... but they're quality disks. You can periodically pick them up on the BestBuy webpage at 25% off when Verbatim is their media sale for the week. Bring it down to about $14+tax per spindle. Plus... they look cool.

You don't need to spend a fortune on disks, just get the kind your burner likes.

Afterdawn forums are a great site filled with information on everything burning/ripping/disk/burner related.

I Decrypt with DVD decrypter...I use DVD shrink and then Nero to write it. My DVD drive is an older HP DVD R-RW. I can only burn to DVD+R disks. And it doesn't matter which brand I use...they are always consistent. It's easy and takes about 2 hours to decrypt, shrink, encode and burn. But I'm using an older Dell with 768 RAM and 128 Gb HD. Nothing fancy but with Netflix...I have a great collection.

That's the system in use around here; not one coaster to date. Highly recommended. I also like using DVD Shrink to re-master the DVD so that all that's on it is the main movie; not 15 mins of previews that you can't skip past..... :angry2:

I was about to PM you to see if you'd gotten this taken care of and found you'd had success. Glad this worked out..!!

I like keeping menus, so I don't remove the previews that auto-play at the front. However, any previews you can access from the menu, I delete those.

Also, I take out all the extras and behind the scenes crap. I never watch them so I just replaced them all with a Still Image black screen. You can compress a 500mg clip into about 20mg. Great for improving your video quality.
