Holy crap,

I woke up at about 5am this morning to my house shaking. I ran in to check the kids and both were asleep, hehe.

It lasted about 10 seconds I guess, hard to say as I was only half way awake. I log on to CNN today to find out that it in fact was a 5.4 mag earthquake. I think they are saying it ties the largest in my region ever.

Pretty interesting stuff for around here....probably nothing for you California guys, hehe.

Edited to add link: Earthquake hits Southern Illinois

According to the news on tv, the people living in high rise buildings are the only ones who felt it. We never realized it happened until we turned on the news. Glad everything is alright.

So Wyatt, did the quake wake you up, or your, dog? I remember being in one of similar size when I still lived in Portland, and it was the dog with his snout under my chin that woke me just in time to wonder how the hell the dog was shaking the whole bed so badly. Glad everything is OK.

Felt it in Bloomington, IN! Shook 15 seconds or so. Pretty cool experience.... So much so I ended up falling back to sleep.

The Indy news channels are so screwed up.... The only thing they lacked was a dramatic music bed and a title "Tremors in the Heartland".... It was 5.4, c'mon....

My wife and I both woke up at the same time 4:37 on our clock the house the bed were shakin', but only because of the geological event . No damage and I think I was awake for about 15 or seconds of it. I know the CA guys will not think much of it, but it was pretty exciting for us Midwesterners.

We felt it in here in KC. We have an antique cabinet by our bed and the glass just started rattling. Woke us both up and seemed kind of strange. Then this morning the kids said they woke up at the same time and felt it. Of course we had no idea it was an earthquake.

Just had another one about 5 minutes ago! The new rock and roll capital!

You know what, that's funny, the dog was right next to me when I woke up, standing there whining.

lol... yojimbo just called me from underneath his desk at work to tell me there was an aftershock....

he was really underneath his desk in the fetal position, possibly sucking his thumb....

Looks like you are less than 100mi from the center in West Salem.

Pretty cool huh?!?!?! I grew up in Southern California and they are one of the seasons out there:
Fires/Santa Annas
Rain (aka STORMWATCH!!!!)
Earthquakes/Car chases
Mudslides/Starlette Panty Shots

See - we have 4 seasons too! I gotta tell ya, I'd much rather have the earthquakes than the Tornados I have now!

Glad to see everyone is safe.

Hoo yah, welcome to everyday life here in Southern California. Earthquakes are fun! Nothin like a good shakin to get the mornin started. Small ones that is...
