Earthquake woke me up this morning

My dog and I slept right through it. He is a lazy boxer though, so not much bothers him. I can't believe I missed it.

Perhaps you didn't know that the one of largest recorded earthquakes in the lower 48, estimated 8.0 on richter scale, occurred on the New Madrid fault in 1811. It raised a 15 foot cataract on and reversed the flow of the Mississippi. It was felt over 50,000 square miles! It caused church bells to ring in Charleston SC.
The northern leg of the New Madrid fault passes 6 miles north of Mt. Carmel, IL.
Just thought you might like to know!

California is going to fall into the ocean.

I slept right through it. I fell asleep on the couch in the family room which has a concrete slab floor. The Mrs hit her snooze button just before the quake and she thought I was shaking the bed trying to get her up for work.

As we say in Southern California, “Eventually, everything east of the San Andreas Fault will plunge into the Atlantic Ocean”. :D

Hold on everyone.

Glad to see there was no major damage or injuries.

So here in Southern Indiana, the wife and I woke up during the initial quake, and while this may be TMI, oddly enough the wifey and I were having, shall we say, relations... during the second quake. I had a feeling that it had happened, but things were a shankin anyway at that time. The only reason I thought an aftershock had occured, was there was a noise from the nightstand unfamiliar to me during such times of normal events.

And as a Kid Rock jingle so says, "An earthquake, can't recreate my shake!"

Night guys, let's hope for a full night sleep tonight.

Yeah a 5.4 with 4+ aftershocks is a pretty good shaker! the biggest one I can remember was a 7+ in the mid 80's, it broke windows all over the county and seriously damaged some old victorian homes in Ferndale CA, then there was a 6+ with 5+ aftershocks in the early 90's, that one was the first one to really scare me as my 2 yr old is asking me, "when is going to end daddy" after about the 8th aftershock, It seems like if you go too long without feeling one, the quake will be stronger, feeling a 2 or 3 every 2 months or so keeps the big one fom happening in MHO

I woke up to it this morning too. I sleep with a matress on my floor, so my entire bed was shaking LOL. First thoughts "FUcking assholes, who the hell is playing the music that loud this early!?!"....then after it didn't stop I was like "holy fuck, earthquake in central IL wtf?" Then I went back to sleep LOL. (Might have been the beers ;))

Right after checking the kids did you check on the wineodor? :D Glad everything is ok.

Hope those aren't fore-shocks. :D

So was it a roller or an up and down quake? Roller's are the best. Up and down quakes cause a lot more damage.

Glad everyone is safe.
