First of all, read this...

El Mejor Torpedo Maduro

This review prompted me to look for some El Mejors. They all seem to be maduros and it leads me to suspect that the cigar mentioned is an El Mejor Expresso Torpedo.

So I bought a 5 pack

And let me say.....

When I first got them I saw these delicious looking box pressed darkly wrapped cigars and it gave off a rich coffee smell right through the cellophane. "I'm in for a nice treat" I thought to myself.

So I took one out, and the dissappointment started from there. First of all, I couldn't cut it, I couldn't score it, not easily. I had to use both hands to cut this lump of dookie, then when I tried to draw from it, the draw was so tight, a passerby would have thought I was giving my cigar head if they saw me, sunken cheeks, puckered lips, the whole porn scene.

I was surprised I was even able to light it, and then draw a little bit from it. The ash got to maybe 1/4" in, and then I thought to myself "7 bucks for a 5 pack of this?!!!!" I then took the decieving stick out of my mouth, put it on the ground, and stomped on it like it owed me money.

correction, IT DID OWE ME MONEY!!!

Well, long story short, I did not enjoy it. The cbid description made them look so good as well. Don't buy this stick, don't go near it, don't even look at it. I gave one away (before I knew this was a major dog rocket), so that leaves me with three left, I'll toss two into my big cooler, keep one in the humi for maybe a month and try to smoke it again.

I gave this stick a fair try, but it did not respond in kindness. I hope this is not what Padron 1964 maduros are like.

WOW!!!! is right. WOW this cigar really sucks. :whistling:

edit - wanted to say, of the first 1/4" I smoked, I had a nice lingering concentrated coffee flavor, so the expresso name is well justified. However, there are serious undertones of burning ash flavor, nuclear waste accents, and a smoked hickory aftertaste. Maybe I should have bought some ACIDs instead.

I also understand the wrappers are dyed.

Doc.

I hear the buzz and light headedness from the drawn is quite nice  Worth a shot, though. You win some, you lose some!!

Oh my GAWD! I have never heard of that before. Are there any respectable cigar manufacturers who also do that? Dyed wrappers?? DYED WRAPPERS????? Thats just sick!

Sorry you had to experience that Dave, best thing to do with those is give them to annoying friends and in laws or something like that:) Other than that I can only suggest using them to fertilize your plants!

I think you'll find them more than a little different. :)

It may be that the one you smoked was poorly constructed, or overhumidified (harkens me back to the JR Remedios "sponges" of old).

I'd drybox one for awhile and try again. If they are dyeing their wrappers, I don't have much respect for them though...

There is at least one who used to. He denied it, but people's lips and hands were turning black...

I'm not mean enough to give these to people I hate, let alone friends. That's something Stalin or Hussein would do. However, when summer time rolls around and my parents need me to help with their gardening, I'll try smoking one while pulling the weeds in the back yard, and if they fail to please, to the compost pile they go.

And about manufacturers dying their leaves to produce "maduros"....

LOL, you're a better man than me! Something Stalin would do!

HEY!!

I got one of these in a newbie sampler and smoked it Monday. I will agree that it was a very hard stick. I think the cap chipped off when I tried to cut it and it was a SOB to get light. I think probably burned 3/4" before I got any smoke out of it. All said after it going it was pretty tasty and my lips and fingers did not turn black! :D Damn if I am going to toss a smoke after putting that much work into it. Unless it starts to burn uneven, that irritates me to no end..
