On Aug. 16, 1977, singer Elvis Presley died at Graceland Mansion in Memphis, Tenn., at age 42. 80lbs overweight and balding Elvis overdosed in his bathroom and was found between the toilet and the tub.

I remember that day vividly.

I was 10, it was a very hot humid overcast gloomy day. Rare for Redondo Beach for sure.
R.I.P. King of rock.

Wish I could have seen him perform "live". I turned my daughters onto his movies he made though so he still lives on!

I vividly remember that day. I can remember women, everywhere I went, were red eyed or actively crying.

I remember hearing the news on AM WLS out of Chicago as we lived in central Illinois at the time. I was not quite 7 at the time but I remember it being a big deal. As I've gotten older, I realize more and more how cool he was as a young man up until the 70's. RIP King.

The Radio went from "How Much is that Dogie in the Window" to "You ain't Nothin' but a Hound Dog". 'cause of him.

Doc.

Last Train To Memphis is a GREAT read. It tells about Elvis' youth, local surroundings and rise to fame.
As odd as it seems now, his looks and sound were so different back then that he was regarded by some as coming from another planet!
He was just a shy, polite, talented kid that got caught up in a whirlwind of fame, greedy sleezy management and a bunch of no-good hangers on.
