Sunday afternoon I noticed it being a little warm in the house when I stepped in from outside. Checked the thermostat and it's reading 79 degrees. Went and checked the outside heat pump unit. The valve just outside the unit had a nice layer of ice on it. UH-OH!!!!!! :0 :0 :0
Called the folks that maintain the unit for me, they came out, checked it and gave me the bad news. The condenser is shot.
With the age of the heat pump system (11 years, of course out of warranty!) I figured it was time to replace the entire system. Spent Monday getting estimates, ending up with the folks that maintained the old system. Earliest they can install the new system is this Friday.
So I spent last night moving all the coolers and humidors downstairs for the duration to keep them cool. It's amazing how heavy 150 quart coolers filled with cigars are! And it also reminded me I've got way too many cigars!
As of now the downstairs is reading 64 degrees. It's supposed to be in the low to mid 80's for the rest of the week. So I'm keeping a close eye on the temp and have cold packs ready to stick in the coolers if it gets too warm. Come on Friday!
