Ever have one of those days...

San Diego  Best weather year round in the US.

We have never been people that get "stuck in the mud" We are not loyal to homes, or places.
Moving is good for the soul IMO, you get to discard all the cobwebs (clutter) when you move.

What about a Motor Home Andy - if you don't like your neighbors or neighborhood, you just start up and move :D

For some reason visions of the Robin Williams move RV come to mind :sign: You know, that family they kept trying to get away from

San Diego does have a MFM Fellowship program, and coincidentally we'll be there first week in May, perhaps it's worth a visit! Hmmmm...

But can we afford a house anywhere around SD? That is, one with all the walls, doors and windows intact?

You should see what Fitzsimmons looks like now. They practially razed the old base and have been building constantly for the last 4 years. University and Children's now have new campus' there. The downside is that for my wife's last neuro visit there, we were charged $275 "facilities fee".

I hear ya bro...

This area is one of the nicest in the state and I am pretty unhappy here. I try to make the best of it and think positively because this is where my wife wants to be.

The confiscatory taxes, the ineffectual government, the inability for much growth due to the previous two points...it's all just starting to boil over and I think this state is in for a lot of trouble in the next 10-15 years.

Good luck to you. I hope you guys can find a better opportunity. I wish my wife would look in that direction...

Just don't move before the 24, OK. You're the only person I'll "know" at all that will for sure be at the HERF!

I'm with you, dude. I was born and raised in Chicago and am just tired of the winters as well. I want to move somewhere warmer but there aren't too many financial IT jobs out west (Hawaii anyone  ) so I have just enrolled in PreMed and am aiming for a PharmD. Sometimes you just gotta grab your destiny and point in the right direction.

I thought Jesse straightened all that out! :whistling:

I totally understand, I keep thinking that if I do not try to live my adult life any farther away from where I started I will have failed. I'm seriously considering the Southwest. I am going to ask some of the staffing agencies about positions in the Southwest. Somewhere with mountains. I think Albuquerque will work.

Come to Tucson, Andy. Houses are still affordable, weather is great, people are great, and its not California.

Well, it's today and we still don't love it here and would like to consider a move. My wife's waiting for a call back from one of the headhunters that she gets junk mail from everyday, about a job in the Denver area. Right now all we know about it is what they could fit on a 3x5 postcard, so it's a longshot, but a start.

Otherwise she's going to keep thinking about Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowships, but the numbers are daunting. There are only 54 accredited programs in the country with a total of 72 open spots each year. The bad news about that is how competitive is must be to get into a program, and that alot of cities that we'd like to consider won't have programs. But the good news is that so far I've found programs in Denver, Albuquerque, Tucson, Salt Lake City, Portland OR, Seattle (no, not Seattle Grace with Addison Shepherd), San Diego, San Fran and Charleston SC to start. The other trick is that to start a fellowship in July 08, she has to get busy right now! Applications need to be in by August, interviews held (if granted), and a decision/rank list made and turned in by October. Then she would find out where she matched on Nov. 2. So while that would all come up quickly, it's also a fair amount of time to keep working here and get ourselves financially ready for her to start her fellowship.

I guess we'll see what happens! I think this is all exciting, and refreshing to keep options open and know there's more out there if we want it. Thanks for all the kind words!

Not that you may want to live in New York, but does New York have a program??

I'm sure there's several programs in NYC, and probably one upstate somewhere as well. I'm thinking a warmer, more moderate climate might be in order though...

Let us know if you need any help about the cities you're considering. I'm sure the citizens of those cities you listed would love to host you and your wife for a visit, especially here in Tucson. :)

It's all relative Andy. Salary should be higher in SoCal (talking without experience), so houses are more expensive.
I guess that's the price you pay for better weather.

Colorado is no winner, unless you move out in winter.

I say, if you are going to move, go for year round weather or...
as Sam says, move to Arizona, most definitely cheaper than CA, just a lot hotter in summer.

Either way, good luck!

Brian
