The guy that owns and runs my local cigar shop told me that after I left yesterday a sales rep from Savinelli came in. He said this guy tried to sell him cigars made from pre-embargo tobacco from Cuba. He said this guy said he had he hab 100% Cuban tobacco cigars, cigars with 70% Cuban tobacco, and one with a Cuban wrapper. He said he also could get a mix fill 100% Cuban tobacco. He said they had purchased the tobacco from an estate auction and were rolling them in Costa Rica. Has anyone heard of Savinelli producing such a product? Buy the way, my shop owner did not make a purchase

Sounds similar to the "My neighbor's brother-in-law has a cousin who has a friend who's brother's step-father has a "good" connection to a realtive who works in at the Partagas factory in Havana who's selling Cuban cigars for a great price" story.

The owner of your cigar shop sounds like a smart man by not falling for some lame story.

Maybe Savinelli reps Pinar or Ghurkas.
Matt is right. Pinar/Ghurka has released cigars that are made of Pre-embargo Cuban tobacco, legal for sale in the US.

I may be wrong, but how long has the embargo been on?? How much "pre-embargo" tobacco can there still possibly be?? ???

Gurkhas are overpriced, and Pinars just plain suck. If you want cuban tobacco, just get the real deal. End of story.

I had heard that when these pre-embargo cigar company's say "contains pre-embargo cuban tobacco" or made from pre-embargo cuban tobacco, they never say how much. Maybe .5% :p ??? who knows! :)

didn't you know?

the hour before the cuban embargo took place,

a few brands ordered large supplies of tobbaco from cuba.
Instead of using it, like the Fuente's (who had ~3 yrs. of cuban tobacco left after the embargo started.)

they put it all into a storehouse, not to be used until 2002!

on that fateful day, WOW a storehouse at perfect humidity and temp. was found to contain a load of Cuban tobacco! the amts. were divided up among the cartel of pre-emb. tobacco sellers.

then we soon got 3+ 'real cuban tobacco' cigars on the market.

I saw the paperwork on these cigars today. They were Pinars. Nice story on them though. ;)

The Pinars are a bunch of crap.......cuban pre-embargo tobacco just happened to be stored away at the right temp and humidity without being found.

Anyhow, I was gifted one......tastes awful. :sign:
